Revisiting Writing in Our Classrooms: How to get students to write what you want
November 18 12:15-1:30p in the President’s Conference Room 1 (RO 527)
While students are taught relatively formulaic writing in K-12 and general research and writing skills in foundational writing courses, our disciplinary practices quickly diverge into specialized needs in our W classes. This workshop will cover how to communicate
our unique disciplinary expectations to our students and design corresponding assignments and in-class activities that effectively teach the expectations of research, thinking, and writing in your field. This workshop will also discuss how teaching disciplinary
writing is affected by generative AI.

Also, a reminder that Al Harahap and I offer drop-in hours for anyone who would like to talk about teaching writing. All faculty are invited to ask any questions about the teaching of writing including assignment design, feedback, communicating disciplinary
expectations, assessment, uses of generative AI, classroom activities, and course development. Faculty can meet with writing pedagogy specialists from:
2-3p on the 2nd Tuesday of every month [November 13, and December 10]
3:30-4:30p on the last Wednesday of every month (and 3rd Wednesday in November) [November 20]
