How does institutional discourse reinforce racial and class discrimination? ***************** Poverty and education are jointly linked and implicated in maintaining disadvantage and underachievement. Policy makers, in their attempt to resolve the situation, inadvertently reinforce the class and race divide if they do not interrogate the larger social structures of capitalist democracies. Rajendra Chetty is a postcolonial scholar engaged with research into race, class, poverty, and social issues in education. His wide areas of research include post-colonial writings, literacy and language, and social issues in education (see http://www.rajendrachetty.com/). He earned his Doctorate in Education at the University of South Africa (1998) in Curriculum Studies and English Education.
