As part of the Year of South Africa, Queens College will host a presentation by Shared Interest -- a non-profit social investment fund that provides support for Southern Africa’s economically disadvantaged communities to sustain themselves and build equitable nations.  Launched the year Nelson Mandela was elected South Africa’s President, Shared Interest provides access to credit and mentorship for microenterprise and small business owners, farmers and cooperative members – the vast majority of them women -- who would otherwise be considered “unbankable.”

The program -- which will highlight themes related to community and international development, impact investing, women’s leadership, and strategies to promote social and economic justice -- is open to the entire campus community.
