12th Annual CUNY Accessibility Conference Perspectives on Access: Innovations, Lessons Learned, and Looking Forward Digital Event on Zoom Tuesday, April 6 Wednesday, April 7 Thursday, April 8 Friday, April 9 Sessions will run from 11:00am EST to 3:00pm EST Tuesday through Thursday, and 10:00am EST to 2:00pm EST on Friday. Each year, the CUNY Accessibility Conference brings together hundreds of participants from the New York City region and across North America to discuss accessibility, disability services, and disability activism in the context of postsecondary education. A year after the start of an unprecedented pandemic and resultant pivot to remote learning nationwide, the conference theme for 2021 is Perspectives on Access: Innovations, Lessons Learned, and Looking Forward. With this theme we hope to reflect on the past year of innovation, the lessons we’ve learned about access in the digital space and what we will take from all of our experiences into the future of accessibility, the provision of remote services to our students with disabilities, and the promotion of digital inclusion for all, regardless of ability. On behalf of the University Advisory Council on Diversity and the Conference Planning Committee, I am pleased to announce that registration is now open for the fifth biennial Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Conference. This two-day virtual event is **Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 16, 2021** The theme is The Power of An Antiracist Academy: Reimagining Systems & Structures. Building on the success of past years, this conference offers faculty and academic administrators the opportunity to focus on research-based evidence, present new ideas, discuss experiences with colleagues and develop constructive actions for change in the belief that diversity in all its manifestations is a driver of our collective success.   This is our biggest conference ever, with a total of 63 concurrent sessions, presented by faculty, staff, and students. 2021 CUNY CUE Conference: A Virtual Series

Over the last year, CUNY colleges have developed new and innovative practices to ensure student success during the COVID-19 pandemic. Faculty, staff, and students at CUNY are reflecting on lessons learned as they look forward to future undergraduate education initiatives at their college. On behalf of the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) at Queens College: Are you interested in creating impactful global learning for your students? Do you want to connect with faculty across national borders? The Office of the Provost at Queens College is pleased to announce the 2021 Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)(https://coil.qc.cuny.edu/) Faculty Fellowships. In keeping with the international goals of Queens College (QC) and Working closely with the Center for Teaching and Learning (http://ctl.qc.cuny.edu/) the workshops will provide faculty support in the development of COIL into their courses. The aim of the COIL Faculty Fellowships is to offer select faculty the opportunity to learn about Collaborative Online International Learning, develop strategies for incorporating it into their courses, advance research with international colleagues, and expand QC’s global presence. Adding a COIL component to your course offers your students an opportunity to interact globally through virtual exchange without additional costs associated with physical mobility. While the COIL component takes place solely online, your course may be face-to-face, hybrid or fully online. The application deadline to be part of the 2021 cohort with a $400 stipend is March 8th by 5pm. Additionally, these techniques will be applicable in tools such as Zoom, Skype, and Collaborate. DESCRIPTION: Creating a video lecture is a complicated task, but the video production basics remain the same—and they are pretty simple! Facilitator Mike Mena has assembled a “Top 5 Tips & Tricks” list to give your videos a boost in audio and video quality. Mike addresses the most common questions most new video creators have, including: My webcam doesn’t look good. Do I need to buy a camera? How should I position my face/body in my videos? Mike focuses on how ideologies of race and language converge in ways that reproduce hierarchical arrangements and income inequality. He is currently conducting ethnographic research on the neoliberalization of higher education at a self-purported “bilingual” university in Texas. Mike also works as an educational technologist and media-making consultant for educators. He specializes in video production and video/image editing software. In 2019, Mena’s YouTube channel, The Social Life of Language, was recognized with the Society for Linguistic Anthropology’s “Public Outreach and Community Service Award.” The Social Life of Language continues to receive national and international recognition for its multi-modal pedagogical approach and as intellectually informed public activism.
