Submit a proposal here: http://bit.ly/325HGLL Register for the conference here: http://bit.ly/2US1wII 2020 CUE Conference and CUNY OER Showcase OER to Open Pedagogy: Teaching and Learning Empowered March 20, 2020 Call for Proposals Over the last 3 years, CUNY has developed a national and international reputation in the field of Open Education Resources (OER). Faculty, staff, and students at CUNY are helping to push forward open educational practices and leading the charge to revolutionize undergraduate education. In order to highlight this important work, the Office of Undergraduate Studies and the Office of Library Services are joining forces to co-host the 2020 CUE Conference and the CUNY OER Showcase. “OER to Open Pedagogy: Teaching and Learning Empowered” will be held at Baruch College on Friday, March 20th. This year’s conference seeks to feature the transformative work being done in higher education at CUNY. Some questions that will guide the conference include: • What kinds of teaching practices do the most to unlock the true potential of OER? • How can we work with our students to make the learning process extend beyond the closed silo of the classroom? • What are the stakes of moving beyond the cost savings of OER to the pedagogical innovations that they can enable? • How can we establish best practices for working with our students in the open? • What kinds of technological infrastructure is needed to practice Open Pedagogy? Faculty, staff, and students working on OER and/or Open Pedagogy projects, practices, or infrastructure are encouraged to submit proposals. Proposals that showcase innovative projects in open pedagogy are particularly encouraged to apply. Formats for presentations are as follows: Interactive Workshop Presentation (30-60 minutes) A workshop presentation should be designed as an intensive session led by an expert or experienced practitioner of the topic. It should be more instructional and interactive in nature than an oral presentation and involve participants working with the workshop leader on a topic or issue that addresses one or more of the conference thematic strands. Panel Discussion (30-60 minutes) A panel discussion involves an interactive discussion among three to four presenters with similar interests or expertise in one (or more) of the thematic strands. Each panelist will be expected to give a brief presentation of his/her perspective/research, leaving time for audience questions and answers. Platform/Oral Presentation (30 minutes) A platform presentation is an oral presentation on one of the thematic strands or focus areas. The presenter should create a presentation that lasts approximately 20 minutes to allow for about 10 minutes at the end for questions/comments from the audience. Lightning talks (5 minutes) Lightning talk participants will have a chance to share the gist of their work in a plenary session. Free Oral History Workshop on QC Campus!

Hello everyone! Queens Memory would like to invite all those interested to a free oral history training workshop at Queens College! This session will be co-hosted by the Education Department's MBK Teacher Opportunity Corps and will take place on Friday, February 21, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the Q-Side room of the Dining Hall. You will learn how to prepare for an interview, ask good questions, make a high-quality recording, and how to submit your completed interview to the library. The session will also feature a discussion of several current and upcoming Queens Memory projects. Fall - Winter Employment Opportunity: Seeking Mandarin Speaker for One Part-time Office Assistant Position The ELI at Queens College is a comprehensive academic program for learning English as a second language. Established in 1945, the program is the oldest English language school in the City University of New York (CUNY) system and one of the oldest in the entire United States. Gain experience in areas of student services, office procedures and working with an international population. Become familiar with basic federal regulations, reporting requirements and record keeping pertinent to international students. Activities include but are not limited to the following: · Manage and respond to emails, phone calls and student inquiries. · Assist in student registrations, record keeping and outreach. · Schedule appointments and aid with application processing and record keeping. · Support organizing and conducting orientations, student events and marketing. Qualifications: · Mandarin speaker preferred. · Displays interest and cross-cultural sensitivity in working with students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. · Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. · Reception experience a plus. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. · International F-1 students are also welcome to apply, but must be registered at QC or the ELI for the Spring 2020 semester to qualify.
