Queens Memory Archives Tour & Volunteer Meetup

Greetings, everyone! Queens Memory is glad to invite you to our next "Volunteers in the Vaults" event on Tuesday, November 7 at the Queens Central Library<http://www.queenslibrary.org/branch/central-library?filters=ev_loc:11000000> in Jamaica, from 6 to 8 pm. Volunteers in the Vaults is a bi-monthly open house aimed at Queens Memory volunteers and the general public -- anyone interested in learning about our upcoming programs and opportunities. First, we will have a guided tour of the Queens Library archives, with a display of some specially selected artifacts by one of our staff archivists. Attendees will then have a chance to discuss possible Queens-related oral history projects and network with Queens Memory program staff. Light refreshments will be served. Queens Memory is jointly sponsored by the Queens Library and Queens College. Faculty are welcome to come discuss ideas for class oral history projects. Dear all, For the past three years, Queens College has been a partner institution with the Asian pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund. This organization has provided generous scholarships to a number of our students each year, as well as offering them mentoring and other professional development opportunities. As part of this collaboration, APIASF asks for volunteer application readers from each partner institution. The training and reading are all done online, and the system is very user friendly. I've attached a flier with information about how to register as a reader, and would be happy to answer any questions you might have. The Department of European Languages and Literatures, the Department of History and FYI are happy to invite you to the screening of two Italian contemporary films (in Italian with English subtitles) ITALIAN CINEMA CUNY (IC-CUNY) When: Tuesday, October 24th from 5:30 to 9:30 Where: Rosenthal Library #230 What: L'uomo che non cambiò la storia (dir. Enrico Caria, The man who did not change history, 2016) an innovative documentary on the visit of Hitler to Fascist Italy in 1938; L'ordine delle cose (dir. Andrea Segre, The order of things, 2017), a film on the efforts of the Italian government and the European Union to work with the Libyan authorities to reduce clandestine migration from Libya to Italy Q & A with Prof. Antonio Falduto and Prof. Gerasimus Katsan Snacks and beverages will be served between the two screenings.
