>From the Center for Teaching and Learning: You are invited to Adjunct Lounge (KH 109) Grand Opening on Wednesday, November 9 at Free Hour. Adjunct Lounge is open to all QC faculty - both part-time and full-time. Tap your QCard on the swipe card system to gain access. Eight Dell computers and two Mac computers have been set up for your use. The lounge is also furnished with sofas, tables and chairs. A refrigerator, a microwave, a copier and a printer are also available. At the grand opening, David Gerwin, Union Chair, and Alexandra Meric, Adjunct Liaison, will give talks on adjunct benefits and changes on the new contract. Materials for adjuncts from Human Resources will be distributed. Refreshments will be served. Python User Group

Hi all, The Python User Group is a friendly interdisciplinary group of students, faculty, and staff who are interested in Python, a flexible, multi-purpose programming language. Python is one of the easiest programming languages to get started with, and we welcome beginners as well as advanced users. The QC Python User Group will be hosted by the Queens Tech Incubator in CEP Hall 2, and will be meeting on Wednesdays during common hour (12:00). Please join us next week for an hour of collaboration and learning! Greetings all, Applications are OPEN and have been EXTENDED for the Tech Talent Pipeline Residency @ Queens College, Spring 2017 Cohort to MONDAY, OCT. 24th! The TTP Residency is a collaboration between Queens College, the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline, and The New York Code + Design Academy (NYCDA). We are recruiting students in Computer Science and related fields for our Spring 2017 program. Participants will enhance their web development skills through customized training delivered by NYCDA and will have a paid internship with a tech company in NYC ($15/hr for 15-19 hours per week during spring 2017). Applications are now DUE Monday, October 24th: http://www.qc.cuny.edu/ttp TTP Residents will: · Hone their full-stack web dev skills in a boot camp during Winter Break · Intern up to 19 hours per week, getting paid $15 per hour at a local tech company during the spring semester · Boost portfolio by working on real-world, group projects · Network with tech professionals to build the technical and professional skills needed to get hired · Get individual coaching while continuing to look for full-time tech jobs and paid internships after the program ends Topics covered include: · Full stack web development with Node.js, Postgres, MongoDB, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, collaborative software development, Git/Github · Tech company workplace expectations; technical interview skills; resume review and access to post-program job opportunities Requirements for application and participation: · Preference given to Computer Science or related majors with a significant amount of coursework completed. Join us for an informative exploration of the movement and discuss how to create sustainable social change in your community. The Center For Ethnic, Racial, and Religious Understanding's (CERRU) Annual Innovation Exchange this year is on Black Lives Matter. We are partnering with the SEEK department and the Secondary Education department's program, Complicated Conversations, to bring you an event to learn more about BLM and about how to engage with social movements.
