Dear All,
This year is the first opportunity for eligible Queens College students to apply for scholarships offered by the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund. Awards are for up to $5,000, and the foundation also offers academic and professional mentoring programs to scholarship winners. Since approximately 25% of our students identify as Asian, Asian-American or Pacific Islander, this could benefit a significant number of students. I'd appreciate your circulating the following link to a blog post I wrote about this scholarship to any students you think might be interested.
Best,
Moira

Hello all. I'm the new National Fellowships advisor here at the college, and am writing to ask your assistance in encouraging talented rising seniors to apply for Fulbright fellowships for 2015-2016. If you know of any A/A- students with interests in cultural exchange, would you be able to encourage them to consider Fulbright? I'm available to talk with students about their plans and to assist them in revising their statements. If it's useful to you, I've included a draft email below.
Best,
Moira
Dear Students,
The Fulbright program is a wonderful opportunity to spend up to an academic year overseas after graduation, and offers many types of awards to meet a wide range of academic goals and interests. For more information, please visit http://us.fulbrightonline.org/about/types-of-grants Because this is such a famous and competitive program, students sometimes don't investigate it, thinking that "someone else" stands a better chance. Remember that Fulbright is looking for well-rounded applicants, interested in cross-cultural exchange along with their academic success. If there's a project that fascinates you, or a culture you've always wanted to get to know better, why not think seriously about Fulbright?
The awards include:
* English Teaching Awards
* Academic Research Awards
* Arts Awards
* Business Awards
* Public Policy Fellowships
* Grants in Science and Public Health
* There is even an MTV Fulbright award and a National Geographic fellowship.
The campus deadline for Fulbright applications is September 12th, so please contact Moira Egan, the college's National Fellowships Advisor as soon as possible if you are considering any of these amazing opportunities. Dr. Egan can be reached by email at moira.egan(a)qc.cuny.edu<mailto:moira.egan@qc.cuny.edu> or by phone at 997-2863.

Subject: New Funding Opportunity at Fulbright Canada (US$35,000)
Dear Dr. Fernandez,
I am writing to you today to bring your attention to an important and exciting new opportunity and to solicit your assistance in engaging your faculty. Fulbright Canada has a targeted opportunity for scholars in a wide variety of disciplines who specialise in improving the continuum of care for families that are impacted by addiction, mental health problems, and trauma. Fulbright Canada and the Norlien Foundation have partnered to create and support a program of Distinguished Visiting Research Chairs in Brain Science, and Child and Family Health and Wellness. At one of Alberta's three research intensive universities, the scholar(s) would conduct translational research that would improve current approaches to preventing and treating addiction and mental health issues.
Given that this is a new opportunity, that three chairs will be appointed annually, and that the recruitment period for year one was very short, I would like to personally request that you encourage your faculty members to consider this opportunity and to begin the online application immediately.
These distinguished chairs have three broad themes: Health and Social System Improvement, Addiction Care and Recovery, and Child Trauma. We are interested in applications from scholars in a variety of disciplines: population and public health, health services and systems research, public policy, knowledge translation and mobilization, business administration, organizational behavior and change management, psychology, sociology, social work, medicine and nursing, and other health disciplines, neurosciences, and early childhood development.
This short notice funding opportunity, valued at US$35,000 for a four month residential exchange, closes on August 1st, 2014. Below you will find more details regarding the award. Interested candidates should email Brad Hector<mailto:%20bhector@fulbright.ca> (bhector(a)fulbright.ca<mailto:bhector@fulbright.ca>) Program Officer for Scholars.
Fulbright awards to Canada provide a prestigious professional development opportunity for your researchers. I want to thank you in advance for your attention on this matter, I value our partnership, and I look forward to welcoming your researchers into this prestigious program, and having them join us for what many have described as the professional and personal experience of a lifetime.
Best regards,
Dr. Michael K. Hawes
