Teaching in Vietnam Internship - Application Open till Dec. 28

Dear colleagues, The application to Teach English in Vietnam is currently open and will remain open till December 28th. Please share this exciting opportunity with undergraduate and graduate students to travel to Vietnam in July 2015 and teach English: Selected students will travel to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and spend the month of July 2015 co-teaching 16-20 hours a week in the Summer Fun program hosted by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education (SEAMEO). Interns will create lessons in English and participate in extracurricular activities for students ages 6-15. This is a great opportunity particularly for Education & TESOL majors but it is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines. Room and board is included plus a small daily stipend. There will most likely be a partial subsidy for round-trip air travel from NYC to Vietnam. The deadline for QC students to apply to the internship is December 28, 2013. No coding experience required. Access Code: Learn to Code and Become a Leader in Tech (Info Session) Come here about an exciting program to gain coding experience and build skills as an entrepreneur in the tech sector provided by Coalition for Queens through their Access Code program. Date and Time: Monday, December 15th, 12:15-1:30 (free hour) Location: Powdermaker Hall 130 Access Code equips talented adults with the computer programming skills and entrepreneurial training to launch their careers in tech. This intensive 9-month part-time program in mobile app development prepares participants with no prior coding experience for entry-level developer jobs at the hundreds of innovative startups and tech companies (such as Google and Facebook) that are looking to hire the next generation of talent. Film scholars Noah Tsika (Media Studies, QC) and Paula Massood (Brooklyn College) will discuss South Africa’s cinematic tradition from the 1950s to the present. Please also announce it to your students - it should be a fascinating lecture! *Starring South Africa: Apartheid and Its Aftermath on the Silver Screen* *Paula Massood* (Brooklyn College) & *Noah Tsika *(Queens College) *Thursday December 11* *4:45pm* *Godwin-Ternbach Museum (405 Klapper Hall)* >From the artistic prohibitions of apartheid to the country’s current role as one of the world’s leading producers of popular media, South Africa has witnessed a range of cinematic practices over the past century. In this presentation, Professor Paula Massood of Brooklyn College and Professor Noah Tsika of Queens College will provide an overview of South African film from the 1950s to the present. With particular attention to the creative contributions of such stars as Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela, Professors Massood and Tsika will examine aspects of South Africa’s cinematic imaginary as it has developed against considerable odds.
