Completing the certificate increases your skills in navigating difficult conversations, increases understanding of existing bias, and exposes participants to issues of importance in current events. Everyone, students, staff, faculty, and community members alike are welcome to participate in CERRU workshops and dialogues. Eligibility for the Conversations for Engagement Certificate is based upon meeting all of the requirements listed below, a 2-page final exit paper, and short discussion with a CERRU staff member to gauge the effect of participating in the certificate program. We have heard alumni from our program speak about the ways in which their work with CERRU has benefited them in their careers. Additionally, during job and internship interviews, our organizational affiliation has stood out on alumni resumes. The Conversations for Engagement Certificate offers the opportunity to gain some of the skills practiced in the Dialogue Fellowship and recognition of being part of the CERRU alumni network. Participants interested in completing the certificate must attend the following within an academic year. 1. Crucial Conversations workshop (offered every semester) 2. Interrogating Bias workshop (offered every semester) 3. Two elective workshops (there will be two elective workshops offered each semester for a total of four) 4. Two dialogues (there will be two dialogues offered each semester for a total of four) Additionally, they must complete a two-page writing assignment for which the prompt is provided in the spring. Wednesday, November 9th, 12:15-1:30pm, or 5:30-8:30pm Understanding the Importance of the Individual in Social Justice and Racial Equity Actions with Cathy Royal This workshop will explore the importance of individual action for advancing racial equity and social justice. The session will examine language, use of self, and awareness for behavior change. It will explore what it means to understand the weight and privilege of social identities. Options for action will also be shared as part of the work and discussion. NOTE: This will be an interactive and experiential workshop; participants will have the option to share insights about identity, power, and privilege across identity and power boundaries. You can attend either session or both. Monday, November 21st, 2016, 12:15-1:30pm Interrogating Bias This workshop provides attendees with tools to recognize bias and interrogate bias in the workplace. The workshop seeks to bridge some of the tension by introducing stakeholders to implicit and explicit bias at the micro and macro level. In addition, the workshop provides a brief introduction on how to create safe and inclusive space for all. Upcoming Dialogue Wednesday, November 16th, 2016, 12:15-1:30pm Student-Facilitated Dialogue- S.E.X.I.S.M: Does sexism affect us all? If so, how? Join us for a riveting dialogue about how we as individuals explore sexism in our culture, ethnicities, and our faith or atheistic traditions.
