Student Affairs Family: My hope is to provide a little clarity regarding the announcements via CUNY’s twitter account, CUNYA!ert, and several emails you may have received. Tomorrow, Monday, March 16, 2020, only essential personnel will report to campus. Essential personnel include building engineers, B&G, and Public Safety. For the Division of Student Affairs, the only essential personnel include the amazing team in The Summit. Since this is a residential building housing students 365 days per year, it cannot close its doors even if the rest of campus has done so. All other departments and offices will be closed tomorrow. I will be on campus tomorrow as well, trying to keep you updated about this fast-changing situation. I had a long conference call with the President’s Cabinet this evening, or I would have communicated with you earlier. I am truly sorry if this delay caused any additional anxiety or concern. Over the next several days, we will be moving to telecommuting for as many staff members as possible; other staff members may stagger the times of their commutes to avoid busier commuting times; others may condense their workweek similar to Summer hours. More guidance on this will be coming shortly. Please remember that we, as Student Affairs professionals, are the ones who are attuned to the students we serve, their emotional states, what assistance they may need whether or not they know it. Remember also that we ourselves are human beings, and we may need to be taken care of, whether or not we know it. Please care for our students, care for each other, and most importantly, care for yourselves. I am so very grateful for every Student Affairs team member and the incredible work you do. I look forward to getting back to “business as usual” as quickly as possible, and seeing everyone soon back on campus.
