[SADivision 0136] Applications for the 2015 Women¹s Forum $10,000 Education Awards are now available!
by Jennifer Jarvis 26 Sep '14

26 Sep '14
Sharing, Be well, Jennifer Applications for the 2015 Women's Forum of New York $10,000 Education Awards are now available for women of Queens College. We ask your assistance in steering the attached information to the attention of directors of those departments or programs enrolling mature women (Women's Studies, Adult Degree Programs, etc) so they can shepherd well deserving women through the application process. Please make both attached application and information sheet available to mature women with strong academic records who have overcome adversity to return to school late in life to fulfill their dream of a college education. The deadline for the application and supporting material is December 1, 2014. Please emphasize to your students that the application must be accessed and completed electronically on the Education Fund tab of our website at www.womensforumny.org<http://www.womensforumny.org>. The website also provides three videos describing our mission and introducing you to some of our former awardees. The purpose of the Women's Forum Education Award is to encourage mature women to realize their own potential and to contribute significantly to their communities. Awards of $10,000 will be given in 2015 to women over 35 who, after interrupting their education due to life's adversities, are now pursuing their first associate or bachelor degree. The adversity one has overcome will be a major factor in the selection process. Applicants must demonstrate noteworthy promise and resilience in the face of challenges and demonstrate a commitment to helping others and to making a difference in their community, when their own career goals are achieved. Financial need is not the primary determining factor in the selection of recipients, although true financial need should be in evidence. Applicants must be residents of New York City, attend colleges in New York City at least part-time and have at least nine credits remaining after June 2015 to complete their degree. Support for the Education Award is provided by members and friends of the Women's Forum, a leadership organization of pre-eminent professional women. We are extremely proud to have distributed $150,000 in 2014 and over $900,000 to over 165 mature women of need over the years. In the past six years, we have proudly presented 4 awards to Queens College students and hope to see the number of applications increase this year. Thank you for directing this application to the proper departments or programs so that women at Queens College - CUNY have the opportunity to apply for this unique award. We are eager to receive applications from your students and encourage your colleagues to call our office at 212-447-9107 with any questions. On October 6, 2014, we will host a reception at Random House for the 2013 and 2014 Fellows. We hope you or your representative will join us to learn more about the opportunities offered to your students by the Education Fund of the Women's Forum. A separate invitation is attached. Sincerely, [Ami Kaplan Sig Medium] [Beverly Beaudoin_sig.jpg] Ami Kaplan President, Women's Forum, Inc. [SADivision 0133] Please Comment on CUNY's Proposed Policy Against Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence
by Jennifer Jarvis 11 Sep '14

11 Sep '14
Please send your comments in any form (e.g. Word document redline or comments, or within an email) directly to Kristen Bowes at kristen.bowes(a)cuny.edu<mailto:kristen.bowes@cuny.edu> by Monday, September 22nd. All comments will be reviewed by CUNY's working group. Any and all input you provide is invaluable to this process! CUNY Newswire - September 11, 2014 Dear Members of the CUNY Community: As many of you are probably aware from news reports, there has been significant new federal legislation and guidance from the White House and from the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights regarding the process that colleges are expected to follow in responding to complaints of sexual harassment and sexual assault. In order to comply with these new requirements, CUNY assembled a working group of lawyers, student affairs professionals and other administrators who have been meeting frequently to determine how to revise CUNY's Bylaws and policies to bring them into compliance with the new federal mandates. Article XV of the Board of Trustees Bylaws- which relates to student disciplinary action-is one such document that is being amended to incorporate requirements contained in the new federal guidelines. While the working group has worked to ensure that the revised Article XV<http://maestro.cuny.edu/trk/click?ref=zqtbwp23f_2-f21x33e19x0513601&> abides by the new federal guidelines and applicable state law, the Office of General Counsel has consulted widely with representatives of various committees within the University, including the University Student Senate and the University Faculty Senate. We are now seeking input from all members of the CUNY community to ensure that the revised Bylaws are as fair and workable as possible within the scope of the federal mandates, and that the document is easy to read and comprehensive. Please note that within the coming weeks you will also be invited to provide feedback regarding CUNY's new Policy Against Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence, which is a single comprehensive policy that will apply both to students and employees. We thank you all in advance for your time and effort in helping us achieve outstanding amendments to our Bylaws and Board policies. Frederick P. Schaffer Senior Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs and General Counsel [http://www1.cuny.edu/portal_ur/newswire/2012/template/images/gsa_newswire.g…] Unsubscribe<mailto:subscribe@cuny.edu?subject=Unsubscribe%20from%20CUNY%20Newswire> | www.cuny.edu<http://maestro.cuny.edu/trk/click?ref=zqtbwp23f_2-f21x3985x0513601&>
