Sent on behalf of Academic Senate Chair, Kevin Ferguson: Dear Senators, Thank you for your patience as we work to safely conduct in-person meetings on campus. Our challenge is to balance the safety of our community with the need to achieve a quorum to conduct business. As you may know, a quorum of 31 senators is required for us to have a legal meeting. Without 31 senators in attendance, we cannot vote any motions, including timely matters such as creating new courses, modifying old ones, or making nominations to search committees. If we believe a quorum is not possible, we do not want to ask Senators to risk their safety or time coming to campus. To that end, we are going to send you an RSVP invitation in advance of each Senate meeting. Please respond to these RSVPs as soon as you can, so that we may gauge how likely we are to be able to have a legal meeting. Thank you for your help on this matter. Sent on behalf of Academic Senate Chair, Kevin Ferguson: Dear Senators, We are writing to give you an update regarding ventilation in Kiely Hall Room 170. We've been informed that Kiely Hall is ready for use , and building was also checked and cleared for use by the university's facilities consultant. Currently, the main system for cooling is undergoing repairs, so while the ventilation is fine, only fresh air is circulated. This should not be an issue for the fall and with summer ending soon. We will keep you informed of any changes. We write to inform you that due to New York State's Open Meetings Law, all Senate meetings must be held in person for the Fall 2021 semester. Please see https://www.qc.cuny.edu/community/Coronavirus/Pages/Campus-Access.aspx for information about accessing campus. If you cannot attend a Senate meeting, please contact your Alternate. While we recognize the risk for some of attending in person, it is essential all Senators attend so that we may have a quorum and conduct our business. We will keep you informed of any updates.
