Dates: Wednesday February 14 Monday March 12 Wednesday April 18 Monday May 21 Wednesday June 6 Time: 11:30 AM - 1:30PM Location: Delany Hall 305 Cookies & Comments sessions allow Queens College researchers the opportunity to drop in and ask questions; have the HRPP staff pre-review their application; navigate the IDEATE online application and help with online submission; as well as assist to formulate a response to any required modification on a submitted protocol. [QCORC 0007] Important information about changes to the Common Rule, CUNY HRPP policies and procedures, and the IDEATE application -- new effective date July 19, 2018

On January 17, 2018, the DHHS and 15 other agencies announced a delay in the effective date of the changes to the Common Rule from January 19, 2018 to July 19, 2018. Please note that CUNY will continue to operate under the pre-2018 rule until July 19, 2018. _________________________________________________________ Important information about changes to the Common Rule, CUNY HRPP policies and procedures, and the IDEATE application -- effective July 19, 2018 The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and fifteen other Federal Departments and Agencies have issued final revisions to the Common Rule, which is the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects. The changes will go into effect on July 19th 2018, and will result in a number of changes to CUNY HRPP policies, procedures and templates, as summarized on the CUNY HRPP website<http://www2.cuny.edu/research/research-compliance/human-research-protection…> under "Common Rule Changes". Detailed information regarding changes to the Common Rule are available on the OHRP 'Final Revisions to the Common Rule' webpage<https://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/regulations-and-policy/regulations/finalized-revis…>. These changes will also result in revisions to the IDEATE application, effective July 19. All new applications that are pending (i.e., not yet approved by the CUNY HRPP/IRB) on or after July 19 will be subject to review as per the revised Common Rule and revised HRPP Policies and Procedures, and must adhere to the revised policies, guidance and templates. As is normally recommended, please arrange to have protocols submitted several months in advance to allow the CUNY UI-IRB/HRPP sufficient time to conduct a proper review, particularly when funding deadlines are forthcoming. Please feel free to contact the Queens College Office of Regulatory Compliance (with the IDEATE protocol number and title) with any questions or concerns, and stay tuned for more information. ***Please disseminate to the researchers in your program or department*** Good Afternoon Queens College Researchers, Implementation of revisions to the Common Rule, federal policy for the protection of human subjects (45 CFR Part 46), as well as corresponding CUNY Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) policies are scheduled to enter into effect on January 19, 2018. Information regarding changes to the Common Rule are available on the OHRP ‘Final Revisions to the Common Rule’ webpage<https://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/regulations-and-policy/regulations/finalized-revis…>. Changes to CUNY HRPP policies are summarized here<http://www2.cuny.edu/research/research-compliance/human-research-protection…>. The CUNY Office of Research Compliance will publish final revised CUNY HRPP policies, templates, and guidance on the HRPP Policies & Procedures webpage<http://www2.cuny.edu/research/research-compliance/human-research-protection…> on January 19, 2018. All new human subjects research protocols that remain to be approved by the CUNY UI-IRB on or after January 19, 2018 will be subject to review as per the revised Common Rule and revised CUNY HRPP policies. All protocols submitted on or after January 19, 2018 must adhere to the revised Common Rule and revised CUNY HRPP policies, templates, and guidance. If you have yet to submit a new human subjects research protocol or resubmit an initial protocol pending revisions, your protocol will probably be reviewed as per the revised federal regulations and updated CUNY policies. We ask everyone in the Queens College Research Community for your continued patience and understanding, as we acquaint ourselves with the revised changes to the Common Rule and corresponding updated CUNY HRPP policies.
