The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Exercise Science is housed within the School of Health Professions at Concordia College. Having matriculated its first cohort of eight students in August 2017, the DI/MS is a thriving program looking to expand.
The Concordia College Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Exercise Science houses two ACEND-accredited dietetic programs – a didactic program in dietetics and a combined dietetic internship graduate program. The didactic program in dietetics (DPD) began in 1975 and boasts an exceptional placement rate (nearly 100%) of students in dietetic internships each year. The dietetic internship began in 1999 and was successfully transitioned to a combined Dietetic Internship and Master of Science (DI/MS) with the first cohort of eight starting in August 2017. The DI/MS currently holds 100% first-year pass rate on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists and 100% employment rate within 12 months following graduation.
This full-time position includes teaching or co-teaching predominantly clinical nutrition courses in both the DPD and DI/MS. Such courses include lifecycle nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, which emphasize the Nutrition Care Process, as well as other courses in dietetics. As a faculty member, the successful candidate has the opportunity to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, participate in scholarship, and engage in service to the department, college and community.
In addition, the successful candidate will serve as Coordinator of the DI/MS. The Coordinator will work closely with the DI/MS Director and be highly involved in recruitment of strong students eager to join Concordia’s DI/MS, stewarding relationships with supervised practice facility administrators and preceptors, scheduling and coordination of supervised practice rotations, collecting outcomes data required for accreditation, and evaluation of interns and supervised practice facilities. The Coordinator will play a vital role in the success of DI/MS students’ graduate school and supervised practice experiences and contribute to the welcoming and positive learning environment for which Concordia is known. Concordia College is interested in expanding the DI/MS, and the successful candidate will be instrumental in helping to grow the program.
The DPD and DI/MS are integral programs within a growing Concordia College School of Health Professions, which also includes Exercise Science, Nursing, Healthcare Leadership, Social Work, and pre-health professions programming (pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, etc.). Students and faculty in the School of Health Professions benefit from collaborative relationships, including opportunities for interdisciplinary and interprofessional work. Additionally, health professions programs emphasize development of one-on-one relationships between faculty and students.

This position is a full-time, tenure track appointment. For tenure eligible, applicant must have earned a doctorate in nutrition, dietetics, or closely related field (ABD candidates are encouraged to apply, doctoral degree completed by starting date is preferred). A fixed term appointment is possible for a candidate with a master’s degree and professional experience. This position will begin in August 2021. A January 2021 start date is possible if a successful candidate is available to start earlier. There is opportunity to teach/supervise in the summer months under a separate appointment.
Preferred Qualification Applicants should possess the following: Must be a registered dietitian nutritionist as recognized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; Have significant and recent (within the last five years) professional experience as a registered dietitian nutritionist in a clinical setting; Be willing to become a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Excellent communication skills and a desire to work in collaborative teams that include other health-related disciplines, such as exercise science, nursing, social work, and healthcare leadership; Identify with the aims and objectives of a liberal arts college, which aspires to the goals for liberal learning and promotes becoming responsibly engaged in the world. Experience and/or familiarity with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accreditation standards; Demonstrated proficiency in college teaching (graduate teaching assistant teaching acceptable); Evidence of successful academic advising both at undergraduate and graduate levels; Membership and involvement in professional organizations; Record of research experience and peer-reviewed publications; Demonstrated understanding and commitment in promoting diversity; Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues and students The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for this position will personify the mission and core values of Concordia College and the mission and philosophy set forth by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.
