Position Summary Provides registered dietitian services in one or more sites according to policies and procedures, and federal/state requirements. The registered dietitian has administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to carry out assigned duties. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, developing, and directing the nutritional care of the resident in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility. Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from an accredited college or university. Must be able to relate information concerning the resident’s condition. Maintains a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance. Dependable, with experience working in facilities utilizing quantity food production methods. Ability to maintain records and complete reports as required. Written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact positively with residents, client and other personnel and the public. Must be knowledgeable of dietary practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing dietary functions in the nursing facility. Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and provide guidance to other personnel. Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Food Services Department. Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of food service areas; must perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing food service practices. Must be able to read and interpret food service cost reports, financial data, etc. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Additional Requirements: Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 10 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 10 pounds, stand, sit, bend and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to work around food and cleaning products. Must live in service area. No relocation costs.

Interpretation/evaluation and implementation of diet orders Development of individual meal plans in conformance with the Physicians’ diet orders, Patients’/Residents’ food preferences and cultural/religious requests. Communication of diet order requests/changes and special instructions for the implementation of individualized nutritional care plans formulated to the Diet Office and/or other units of the department. Review of diet renewals and dietary records for implementation and accuracy (Dietary List, nourishment/Sandwich List, Formulary List, etc). Participation in comprehensive care planning conferences. Communication with the Physicians, Nurses and members of other disciplines concerning the provision of appropriate nutritional care. Acts as consultant on nutrition issues for other members of the Inter-disciplinary team. Provision of nutrition education to patients/residents and/or family (including food & drug interaction), if needed. Documentation of nutritional care in the medical records, as per procedure. Record keeping and filing of nutritional records, as per procedure. Timely completion and submission of daily/weekly reports of activities and as needed. Participation in monthly staff meetings, in-services and performance improvement conferences. Attendance to outside seminars as approved and reporting of information gathered from attendance. Completion of meal rounds to ensure conformance to prescribed diets, adequate food intake and overall meal tolerance. Maintains friendly, efficient Spirit of Service attitude towards customers, co-workers and patients/residents. Preceptor of dietetic interns as needed. Responsible for conducting group education for the interdisciplinary team, other healthcare workers and the public when necessary. Visit patients to obtain a detailed nutrition history summary and determine their nutritional needs. Once needs are determined, comprehensive assessments will be completed, including recommendations that will be communicated to the physicians and/or nursing staff. Document daily productivity of all patients assessed and/or visited and any patient associated meetings. Provide daily productivity reports to the clinical nutrition manager on a weekly basis. Conduct tray assessments and evaluations as per schedule provided by the department. Collect data and participate in department QA and PI projects.
