Session Summary: 
The webinar is designed for dietitians that are interested in understanding the need to strengthen preventive nutrition especially in context with Adolescents and Young Adults – a crucial phase to arrest the damage and progression to diabetes. Using Food based approaches can be a very effective way to ameliorate the internal environment. The Food based approach essentially should focus on snacks, replacing the high refined flour, saturated fats and trans fat rich snack (HFSS) with healthier natural options. The webinar will share the latest research data on the effect of food based intervention on the risk to pre-diabetes and inflammatory state of the body in Indian Adolescents and Young adults.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1.     To understand the prerequisites for Metabolic Health and its implications on the predisposition of Adolescents and Young adults to pre-diabetes.
2.     To understand the nutrients and dietary factors which impact the inflammatory state of the body.

Dr. Jagmeet Madan is an eminent Nutritionist, National President of the Indian Dietetic Association, Principle and Professor of the Food Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Sir Vithaldas Thackery College of Home Science and SNDT Women's University in Mumbai India. She is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Indians in Nutrition and Dietetics Member Interest Group in USA. Jagmeet is a gold medalist and recipient of the Young Scientist Award and Dr. Ramnathan Award by the Nutrition Society of India and National Institute of Nutrition Hyderabad - South India. Jagmeet is a recipient of the Prestigious International Research Grant Award by the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in USA in 2017. She is a lead Principal Investigator of the International Research Project on Pre-Diabetes in Adolescent and Young Adults in India and Food Based Intervention approved by USDA from 2018 to 2020. Jagmeet is an Expert on the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) Scientific panels on Labeling and Claims / Advertisement and Scientific Panel of Nutrition and Fortification from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. She is a member of the National Steering Committee of NetProfan, FSSAI and Government of India. Jagmeet has more than 50 publications in International and National peer reviewed Journals and Books. Our Community Nutritionists (RDs) work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing nutrition intervention and counseling to a diverse patient population. The nutritionist may also plan, organize oversee and/or facilitate nutrition related events, activities, and workshops.

JOB FUNCTION:  
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Evaluates and monitors patients’ nutritional status.

  • Completes necessary reports and forms and documents patient services in the appropriate medical record.

  • Conferences with the Director of Nutrition as necessary to seek consultation and share information that is pertinent to patient care.
  • Plans, conducts and participates in nutrition education presentations, workshops and health fairs for the agency.
  • Attends conferences and participates in trainings/informal sessions as requested by Director of Nutrition.
  • Participates in clinic and central office team meetings as designated.
  • Directs prenatal clients to local WIC offices and aids with their admission into the program.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIRED:
  • All of our Nutritionists must be Registered Dietitians (RD).   
  • New York State licensure preferred.
  • Minimum of B.S. in Nutrition or Health Education with experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred.

Position will be fully remote and will transition to in person when safe to do so.
