Presenter Bio
David Wiss, MS, RDN is the founder of Nutrition in Recovery, which specializes in: Addictions, Eating Disorders, Mental Health, Gut Health, Body Image, and General Wellness. Mr. Wiss works closely with individuals to help them revolutionize their relationship with food and has shared his expertise with numerous eating disorder and addiction facilities throughout the greater Los Angeles area. David is a published author and a nationally recognized expert in nutrition for addiction, currently a PhD candidate in the school of Public Health at UCLA. His dissertation is focused on the link between early life adversity and mental health over the life course.

Webinar Description:
Summary: In this presentation, Mr. Wiss makes the topic of trauma relevant to dietitians. By understanding the mechanisms by which trauma gets “under the skin” providers can be less assumptive and less stigmatizing regarding human behavior. Being “trauma-informed” does not mean discussing trauma with patients- it is simply about understanding and creating a safe environment for healing. This presentation is designed to help dietitians feel more confident
working in mental health settings and to have higher levels of cultural humility.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, the participants will be able to:
1. List three ways in which early life adversity impacts human biology.
2. Describe potential consequences of trauma and known links to various forms of addictions and eating disorders
3. Understand how nutrition can be used to support the recovery process, both from the biological and psychological perspectives.

Change the conversation when discussing dietary protocol with clients. Instead of educating them on what they need to limit or "can't have" per diagnosis protocol, empower them with foods they CAN eat and healthy cooking techniques that can be utilized at home to prepare flavorful food. Bridge the gap of nutrition education with what clients understand about food.

Join us online to learn how to educate your clients with evidence-based science, but translated through food along with behavior change techniques. Learn how to evaluate clients' cooking skills and confidence in the kitchen to set realistic food-focused behavior change goals.

The demonstration class is approved for 2.0 CEUs by the Commission of Dietetic Registration.

This culinary nutrition event will focus on the 9 most common food allergens. Topics will include a look at each allergen and how to address food and nutrition needs for each individual as well as how to deal with a combination of allergies.

*will be recorded and available for replay
$14.99

Recipe demonstrations included. (cook-along optional)
