Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Nutrition, provides quality nutrition care and education to patients and family members. The Clinical Nutrition Coordinator coordinates departmental initiatives and education programs. Maintains level of clinical expertise for assigned area, recommends the appropriate nutrition therapy as it pertains to the patients’ nutritional needs, make therapeutic dietary recommendations, provide quality nutrition counseling, monitor adherences to nutrition related recommendations and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team. Acts as a resource to all clinical staff, provides feedback for their professional development, and coordinates departmental initiatives and education programs. Adheres to all applicable regulatory agency guidelines, and to department and hospital philosophies, standards, objectives and policies and procedures.

The Satellite Transplant Clinical Nutrition Coordinator provides nutritional services to patients at Mount Sinai Health Systems Recanti Miller Transplant Institutes satellite offices on Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn. Terence Cardinal Cooke is currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time Registered Dietitian to join our Nutrition Team in a 500+ bed LTC/SNF.  With your expertise as a Dietitian, your work will be valued as you make a difference in the lives of our patients, customers, and other healthcare professionals. This position will allow you the opportunity to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to all levels of acuity and a wide variety of disease states.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy including nutrition assessment, diet modification, nutrition education, and intervention for patients
  • Incorporate current evidence-based research into practice, utilizing the Nutrition Care Process
  • Comply with guidelines as outlined within the Company Diet Manual and the Clinical Nutrition Policies & Procedures Manual
  • Ensure patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory agency compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and completion of an ACEND accredited supervised practice pathway (Dietetic Internship Program, Coordinated Program, ISPPs, Pathway I, Pathway II), required
  • Successful completion of the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Examination within company’s required timeline as outlined per policy, required
  • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by CDR post examination, required
  • Licensed by the State Dietetics Licensing Board, post examination, in states where applicable within company’s required timeline as outlined per policy, required

Preventing Food Allergies: The Impact of What and When We Feed Babies

Guidelines for feeding babies have changed in monumental ways over the past two decades, particularly regarding the introduction of potentially allergenic foods. At the same time, there has been a steep increase in the number of children who have developed food allergies. In this session, the speaker will provide a brief history of feeding recommendations for infants and how the current guidance provides food allergy prevention benefits for infants and families. Using the latest scientific evidence, the speaker will share the most important research about how and when babies should be fed potential allergens, particularly peanut and egg, to prevent food allergies. In addition, the speaker will give concrete examples of how Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) and Nutrition and Dietetic Technicians, Registered (NDTRs) can provide evidence-based, practical guidance to parents and caregivers to overcome barriers to early introduction of potential allergens.

Objectives:
  • Explain why there have been changes to the recommendations for feeding infants potential allergens
  • Utilize the latest research and evidence-based guidelines to recommend what potentially allergenic foods to incorporate into infant diets and when to incorporate those foods
