[Mathmethods 0110] Methods Placement Information
Dear Math Methods Students, Happy new school year! Attached please find an Excel file with your student teaching placement information (Note: Student Teaching/Methods placements and observation hours are separate from ICE placements and observation hours). Observations for the Methods course will be completed at the student teaching school. The first worksheet, labeled "Placement," is arranged by last name of student and indicates your placement. The second worksheet, labeled "School Contact," indicates the name of the person and contact information for each school. If two names are listed, please contact the person listed as "contact" to arrange your observation schedule (the other name of an administrator is listed as a courtesy, for your information). The third worksheet , labeled "ICE Updated," is included so that you have all your info in one file. Remember to be professional in all communication (email or telephone) and pay attention to grammar and spelling. Arrange to observe once per week for 3 periods. You should observe for two periods and be of service to the department for the third period. It is good to observe different teachers each period and/or each week so that you observe different teaching styles. However, the schedule is at the discretion of the math chair. Provide the day of the week and the hours of the day that you are available and your contact information. You should mention that you are a student teacher candidate from Queens College and that they should have received an email from Mrs. Weinman with your name. You are requesting to observe this semester prior to student teaching next semester. Please note that the AP's are extremely busy with student needs at the start of the semester. You are the least of their concerns so do not be upset if you do not receive a reply immediately. Be politely persistent if necessary. If you send an email and do not receive a timely reply, follow with a phone call and mention that all your contact information is in the email. Please note that some AP's may invite you to observe on days that you are committed to be at your ICE school. Politely explain why you are not available and state clearly when you are available. Have a wonderful semester!
