VANGUARD:  MATH
Anticipated Mathematics Opening at Vanguard HS

Vanguard HS is currently receiving applications in mathematics for the 2016-17 school year.  We are anticipating an opening this fall.  You must officially apply by emailing your resume and cover letter to webmaster@vhsnyc.org.

About Vanguard HS
Vanguard is a small high school in New York City. Our commitment to the Coalition of Essential Schools’ Twelve Principles and the New York State Performance Based Standards Consortium drives our educational philosophy. This enables us to create a school that has high expectations, shared accountability, is student-centered, and uses performance-based instruction and assessment to measure what our students learn.

We are a supportive and collaborative community committed to our students’ achievement during and after high school. Research indicates that schools citywide have had trouble meeting the needs of their urban students.  The population of Vanguard High School is primarily African-American, African-Caribbean and Latino, with an emerging Asian population. The demographic also consists of students who come from low-income, working and middle class communities.

Please visit www.vanguardnyc.net to familiarize yourself with the Vanguard community.

Vanguard students fulfill graduation requirements by demonstrating their knowledge through the completion of five Academic Portfolios and presentations to graduation committees, as well as achieving success on the ELA Regents Exam.

LANDMARK HIGH SCHOOL

Landmark High School is seeking teachers in Social studies, Math, English, and Special Education for the 2016-17 school year.  We are also seeking a maternity leave replacement for ESL for September and October.

Landmark is a small, college preparatory high school located in Chelsea.  As a member of the Consortium, we believe that performance-based assessments are a stronger measure of our students' progress and understanding than high stakes tests.  Therefore, our teachers work hard to develop meaningful, engaging, and rigorous curricula that are largely project-based and place students at the center of instruction.

We believe that collaboration is integral to our own professional growth and development.  Every teacher meets weekly with their department team as well as with their grade team.  Teachers also meet weekly with their ICT partners for collaborative curriculum planning and assessment.  In the service of ongoing professional development, we also have instructional coaches and weekly PD workshops for all teachers.

At Landmark, every teacher additionally serves as an advisor to approximately fifteen students.  We believe that our advisory program is essential to ensure that students build close, trusting relationships, as well as certain non-academic skills, including perseverance and responsibility.  We implement restorative justice practices and all advisors are trained in facilitating restorative circles.  Our advisory program helps us to establish a family environment within our school.

All applicants should please send a resume and cover letter to Caron Pinkus at caronpinkus1@gmail.com.
