Humanities Prep Seeking Mathematics Maternity Leave Replacement

Humanities Preparatory Academy is currently seeking a 10th grade Geometry maternity leave replacement from September 6th -December 1st of 2016.

Our website at www.humanitiesprep.org is one way to begin to know our school community.

Our Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Humanities Preparatory Academy to provide a philosophical and practical education for all students, an education that features creativity and inquiry, encourages habitual reading and productivity, as well as self-reflection and original thought. We agree with Socrates that the unexamined life is not worth living, and it is our desire to prepare students to live thoughtful and meaningful lives. We are committed to inspiring the love of learning in our students. This mission can best be accomplished in a school that is a democratic community.   As a democratic community, we strive to exemplify the values of democracy: mutual respect, cooperation, empathy, the love of humankind, justice for all, and service to the world.

Our School
Prep is one of NYC's original small high schools, begun almost 2 decades ago in the early era of the small schools movement.   Our ways of working with students are based in the
and in our Seven Core Values, developed by founding co-director Perry Weiner:

   Respect for Humanity
   Respect for Diversity
   Respect for the Intellect
   Respect for the Truth
   Commitment to Peace
   Commitment to Justice
   Commitment to Democracy

We also align our work with the Coalition of Essential Schools' Twelve Principles, which can be found at www.essentialschools.org.

Our work as a member of the New York State Performance Based Standards Consortium (www.performanceassessment.org) guides and informs our outcomes-based
education philosophy. This enables us to continue to strive to create a school that has high expectations, shared accountability, is student-centered, and uses Performance Based Assessment to measure what our students learn.

Humanities Prep students fulfill graduation requirements by demonstrating their knowledge through the completion and presentation of four Performance-Based Assessments to a panel of "experts," as well as through achieving success on the ELA Regents Exam. In addition, graduates must complete four years of academic and elective courses of student work as per NY State Graduation Requirements.
