Dear Methods Students,
It has been brought to my attention that the Certification Meeting conflicts with the seminar with Ms. Razza for some of you. Ms. Razza will allow you to attend the meeting and will meet you in PH 004 and then move with you to PH 002 if the certification meeting goes long.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weinman

Dear Math Methods Students,
Happy new school year! Attached please find an Excel file with your student teaching placement information (Note: Student Teaching/Methods placements and observation hours are separate from ICE placements and observation hours). Observations for the Methods course will be completed at the student teaching school. The first worksheet, labeled "Placement," is arranged by last name of student and indicates your placement. The second worksheet, labeled "School Contact," indicates the name of the person and contact information for each school. If two names are listed, please contact the person listed as "contact" to arrange your observation schedule (the other name of an administrator is listed as a courtesy, for your information). The third worksheet , labeled "ICE Updated," is included so that you have all your info in one file. Remember to be professional in all communication (email or telephone) and pay attention to grammar and spelling.
Arrange to observe once per week for 3 periods. You should observe for two periods and be of service to the department for the third period. It is good to observe different teachers each period and/or each week so that you observe different teaching styles. However, the schedule is at the discretion of the math chair. Provide the day of the week and the hours of the day that you are available and your contact information. You should mention that you are a student teacher candidate from Queens College and that they should have received an email from Mrs. Weinman with your name. You are requesting to observe this semester prior to student teaching next semester.
Please note that the AP's are extremely busy with student needs at the start of the semester. You are the least of their concerns so do not be upset if you do not receive a reply immediately. Be politely persistent if necessary. If you send an email and do not receive a timely reply, follow with a phone call and mention that all your contact information is in the email.
Please note that some AP's may invite you to observe on days that you are committed to be at your ICE school. Politely explain why you are not available and state clearly when you are available.
Have a wonderful semester!
Mrs. Weinman

Dear Methods Students,
Now that the Regents Assessment has been graded and returned, you should know if you need to take any of the full Regents exams. If your grade on any of the three sections of the assessment was less than 8, you need to take a full exam for that Regents course. Keep reading for details. If your grade was 8 or higher on all 3 sections, this email does not apply to you except to remind you to keep reviewing the high school curricula so that you are prepared for student teaching.
The passing grade for each Regents exam is a true 80% (i.e., the conversion table applied to the scores of secondary school students will not be applied). You will be allowed three hours for the exam but may leave as soon as you are finished. You may bring and use a straight-edge, a compass (for the Geometry exam), and a graphing calculator; TI-89's are not permitted.
The full Regents exams will be given on Fridays September 29, October 6, and October 13, 10am-1pm. in PH 004. You will take the exams that you have not yet passed in the order of the courses (starting with Algebra 1, then Geometry, and then Algebra 2). For example, if you need to take Geometry and Algebra 2 exams, you will take the full Geometry Regents on September 29 and the full Algebra 2 Regents on October 6; if you need to take only one exam, no matter what it is, you will take it on September 29.
* If you need only one exam, schedule to take it on September 29.
* If you need two exams, schedule to take them on September 29 and October 6.
* If you need 3 exams, schedule them on September 29, October 6, and October 13.
To schedule an exam, reply to this email today with the following information:
* Your name
* Name of the exams you need to take (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2)
* Dates of your exams.
Exams will be printed for students who have replied to this email and scheduled their exams. If you do not reply to this email, you will be forfeiting your chance to retake the exam(s) you need and therefore not meet the exit requirement for Methods. Therefore, I will reply with a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact me, again.
Please arrange to reschedule any observations for ICE or Methods that occur during the times of the exams. Tell your cooperating teachers, supervisors, and the AP/ Department Chair that a commitment came up for one of your classes and you need to reschedule certain dates. Hopefully, you do not already have ICE formal observations scheduled on these dates.
Keep studying!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weinman
