Dear Mathematics Supervisor:
Queens College is pleased to announce that the TIME 2000 program, initially funded by the National Science Foundation, will be offered again for Fall 2021 entering freshmen. As you may recall, this is a specially designed undergraduate teacher education program in mathematics that uses the latest technology and teaching strategies to prepare mathematics teachers for the 21st century. A unique feature of the program is the early recruitment of highly qualified mathematics students. TIME 2000 will provide a scholarship towards tuition for all who are accepted. After graduation, students may teach anywhere in the United States that they find a position. Detailed information about the program, as well as the application, can be found at TIME2000.qc.cuny.edu.<https://www.qc.cuny.edu/Academics/Honors/Time2000/Pages/default.aspx>
Attached please find the TIME 2000 information card. Please forward it to interested and qualified students as well as to your colleagues who can identify such students. Also attached is information about tutoring services offered by our current TIME 2000 students who have formed a club called "Today's Tutors, Tomorrow's Math Teachers." Please share with your math teachers for their students who might be interested in discounted remote tutoring services.
Recruitment is essential if we are to address the shortage of highly qualified mathematics teachers. It is often the suggestion of a teacher that first gets a student to consider becoming a teacher. You can make an impact, today!
If there are any questions regarding this program, please ask interested parties to contact me by email at Naomi.Weinman(a)qc.cuny.edu<mailto:Naomi.Weinman@qc.cuny.edu>. The college will be operating remotely for the remainder of the year.
Thank you and be well.
Naomi
