[MAEnglish] ENGL MA end-of-semester announcements
Dear Graduate Students, My regular office hours for the spring semester have ended, but please do email if you have any questions or need advising. And please read below for some important announcements: *1. Prof. Bill Orchard as Acting Director of the ENGL MA Program in Fall 2017* I will be on sabbatical Fall 2017 (as well as Fall 2018). While I'm gone, Prof. Bill Orchard will be Acting Director of Graduate Studies. If you have any questions or need help after *August 1*, please see Bill during his fall office hours or email him at worchard@qc.cuny.edu. *2. Taking an Incomplete* If you're unable to complete a final course assignment and want to take an incomplete, please make arrangements with your professor. Keep in mind that an incomplete is a temporary grade and should be resolved ASAP. All INCs must be completed within 1 calendar year (so an INC in Spring 2017 must be resolved before the end of Spring 2018). *3. Registering for Summer and Fall 2017 Classes* Please register for your summer and fall classes ASAP, if you haven't already. Courses that are underenrolled could be in danger of being canceled by the College administration. I've attached again here the updated course descriptions, which include a couple new classes in both summer and fall. *4. Registering for 791 and 795* If you're planning to write your thesis essay or take an independent study in the fall, you should've already been in touch with me or Bill and also already asked the faculty members you'd like to work with (before they're gone for the summer). If you have questions or need copies of the sign-up forms, please let me or Bill know. *5. Graduation* Congratulations to everyone who is finishing up and graduating this semester ! We hope you'll attend the English Department's Commencement Ceremony this *Friday, May 26*, in the Goldstein Theatre, around 11:30am. MA students who already graduated in Fall 2016 or won't be officially graduating till Summer 2017 are welcome to participate in the ceremony. No RSVP or tickets are required, though I recommend you and your loved ones get there by at least 11 to grab seats (and even earlier if you need to look for parking). Graduates will sit onstage, and you'll be given instructions on where to sit, when to line up to get your name called, etc. Cap and gown are not required. The ceremony usually lasts about an hour, and there's a small reception with cake afterward. Hope everyone's semester is winding down nicely, and wishing you all a lovely summer! Best, Dr. Caroline Hong -- Caroline Kyungah Hong, PhD Assistant Professor of English Director of Graduate Studies (English MA) Queens College, CUNY 65-30 Kissena Blvd. Klapper Hall 604 Queens, NY 11367-1597 caroline.hong@qc.cuny.edu
