[EnglishMA] Tutoring Opportunities at QC for MA Students in Spring 2023
There are a number of writing tutor opportunities for adjunct faculty, MA/MFA students, and undergraduates available in Spring 2023 through two projects funded by the Provost’s Office to help improve retention and passing rates in English 110 and through a recent grant designed to support Asian American and Pacific Islander students. The different types of tutoring are: 1. Embedded tutors for English 110 2. Embedded tutors for English 115 3. Tutors specializing in tutoring multilingual writers Embedded tutors would be assigned two sections and they would attend the conference hours for 110 or the class meetings for English 115. They would be responsible to assist the faculty member in giving individualized writing support to students during the class meeting period. Multilingual tutors would work their hours in the Writing Center and tutor students from a variety of classes with a focus on multilingual students. Candidates for these positions could be one of any of the following categories: * Current adjunct writing faculty who would like to supplement their hours * MA/MFA students who are interested in teaching writing * MA/MFA students who have previous writing center experience * Current or prospective adjunct faculty who are interested in teaching English 108, English 109, English 115, or the Navitas sections of English 110. * Undergraduates who were strong and reflective writers in English 110/English 130 or any W class * Undergraduates who are exploring a career in teaching * Undergraduates who are in the writing minor * Undergraduates/graduate students/current part-time faculty interested in tutoring who are bilingual * Undergraduates/graduate students/current part-time faculty interested in tutoring who have experience with Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Bengali, Nepali, or Hindi The compensation for these tutoring positions is $15.50-18.50/hr with an average of 10 hours a week. These hours will include tutoring and training.
