[EnglishMA] End-of-semester announcements
Dear Graduate Students, Today, Monday, March 17, is the last day of classes for the Spring 2021 semester. Please read on for some important end-of-the-semester announcements and updates. And as always, if you have any questions or need advising, please email us anytime. GRADUATION Congratulations to all of you who are graduating (or have already graduated) this academic year! While we're sad that we can't celebrate you in person, we're looking forward to honoring you virtually. Students who earned their degrees in Fall 2020 or will earn them in Spring 2021 or Summer 2021, you and your loved ones are invited to the English Department's virtual graduation ceremony on *Wednesday, June 2, at 12:00pm* (details to come). There's also a QC-wide virtual commencement ceremony happening on Thursday, June 3, at 9:00am (click here for more info <https://www.qc.cuny.edu/about/Commencement/Pages/Default.aspx>). *If you are planning to graduate this Summer 2021, please email us to confirm this*, so we can be sure to include you in the graduation festivities. (If you're graduating this semester or graduated this past fall, I should already have you on our list of this year's graduates.) TAKING AN INC If you are unable to complete a final course assignment and want to take an incomplete, please discuss this possibility and make specific arrangements with your professor. Keep in mind that an incomplete is a temporary grade and should be resolved ASAP. All INCs must be completed within 1 calendar year (so an INC in Spring 2021 must be resolved before the end of Spring 2022). COURSE WITHDRAWAL Grad students will not be able to take courses P/NC for their degree requirements, but another option available to students who may have fallen behind this semester is to withdraw from a course. The withdrawal deadline for Spring 2021 is *TODAY, Monday, May 17* (click here for instructions <https://www.qc.cuny.edu/Academics/SupportPrograms/advising/Documents/The%20Pass%20No%20Credit%20Option%20-%20SPRING_2021.pdf>). Withdrawing from a course will not affect your GPA. Note however that withdrawals may affect your financial aid, so please consult the QC Hub ( QCHub@qc.cuny.edu) before choosing this option. REGISTERING FOR FALL (& SUMMER) COURSES If you're planning to take Fall 2021 and/or Summer 2021 courses and haven't already registered, please do so ASAP via CUNYfirst. (Courses that are under-enrolled may be canceled by the College administration.) I've attached the fall and summer course descriptions again here. Please note that all Summer 2021 English grad courses will be online, and Fall 2021 English grad courses will be either fully online or hybrid. REGISTERING FOR ENGL 791 & ENGL 795 For anyone planning to take ENGL 791 or ENGL 795 in Fall 2021, the sign-up forms and proposals are due by email to MAEnglish@qc.cuny.edu by *August 2, 2021*, at the latest. Please email us for more info or to get a copy of either sign-up form. (Students planning to take ENGL 791 should've already been in touch with us—please email ASAP if you haven't already.) We'll be in touch with more updates soon but, in the meantime, good luck with your final papers and projects! We hope your semesters wind down as smoothly and gently as possible and wish you a safe and restorative summer break! Best, Caroline & Hillary, your Directors of Graduate Studies -- Dr. Caroline Kyungah Hong Associate Professor of English Director of Graduate Studies (English MA) Queens College, CUNY *she/her/hers* * Please note that I am off email on weekends and will respond to your email during business hours, Monday–Friday 9am–5pm, generally within 1–2 business days.
