Dear MA students,

I hope this finds everyone enjoying these summer days! We’re writing with an exciting announcement about new internships in New York media. Please see attached and below for the info-- note the application period begins June 22, with an upcoming Zoom info session on Friday, June 24—and contact Prof. Tougaw with any questions.

Best,

Hillary  & Caroline

Dear Students.

I’m excited to announce a new opportunity for students—made possible through a partnership between New York Public Radio (NYPR) and the Media Studies Department, the Queens Podcast Lab, and The Knight News at QC. NYPR is the umbrella organization for WNYC, Gothamist, WNYC Studios, and The Greene Space. They produce some of the most outstanding live radio, print journalism, podcasts, and live events in the country.

The partnership will create access to some of the most outstanding internships in New York media. These are paid internships that run the duration of the academic year. The application period for the academic year 22-23 is June 22 - July 20.

Professor Amy Herzog (Media Studies) and I will hold a Zoom workshop / information session for students interested in applying—on Friday, June 24 at 11 am. Zoom info: https://us02web.zoom.us/my/jasontougaw

We are also happy to mentor interested students though the application process. We want you to land these great internships! See the attached PDF for details and FAQs.

Please reply to this email to let me know if you plan to attend the information session / preparation workshop. If you do plan to attend, you should do the following in advance:

—Take a look at all the links in the PDF. Familiarize yourself with NYPR as an organization and some of its affiliated media.

—Choose a couple of shows or publications you’re especially interested in. Familiarize yourself with their pages—and especially their sarttaff.

—Start reading or listening to the content that you’re interested in to gain a sense of their missions, styles, and personalities.

Note: WNYC Studios produces a lot of podcasts. We list just a few in the PDF. I encourage you to branch out and explore the others on their site.

Note #2: You can apply if you have graduated, so long as you complete the internship within a year of your graduation. This goes for undergrads and grad students.

Please let me know if you have questions.
