Dear Graduate Students,

Just a couple of end of semester notices/announcements for you to read over. I know it's a busy time but please take a couple of minutes to do so.

Advising and Office Hours: I shall be holding my final office hours for the semester on Wednesday May 30 from 3:00-6:00. After that, I shall only be available via email until mid-August. You're welcome to contact me that way, but please keep in mind that with the exception of urgent cases I may take up to a week to respond. For questions about summer MA classes, you should first contact Professor Rhoda Sirlin, the Summer Chair. Her email is bklynheights@hotmail.com.

Incompletes: If you receive or have received permission to take an INC for a course this semester, please keep in mind that this is a temporary grade that needs to be resolved as soon as possible, and, unless there are exceptional circumstances, by the end of the Fall 2012 semester at the latest.

English 791: If you wish to register for ENG 791, the thesis-writing course, for the fall 2012 semester, please be in touch with me via email. Before being permitted to register, you will need to have found a faculty member who has agreed to serve as your essay advisor. Your advisor should be a full-time member of the English faculty and a scholar in the field in which your essay falls. You will also need to submit a sign-up form which asks for contact information, your provisional essay title and a 250-300 word topic description. I will ask you to revise and resubmit your form if your topic description contains mechanical or formatting errors or if its ideas are too broad or vague to be workable for the culminating essay. You must have your thesis form approved by me by the end of the first week of fall classes at the absolute latest. If your form has not been approved by then, you will not be permitted to register for ENG 791. I'm attaching a copy of the form as a word document to this email. If you can't open the attachment you can also email me directly and I'll send you a copy of the form.

Finally, let me wish you a happy end to the semester and a relaxing start to the summer. Special congratulations to those of you who are graduating next week. If you wish to remove yourself from the listserve, visit the site here:  http://lists.qc.cuny.edu/mailman/listinfo/maenglish

All best wishes,
