Dear Graduate Students,

Happy New Year! A reminder that, if you're planning on signing up to take either ENGL 791: Thesis Course or ENGL 795: Independent Study in Spring 2020, the deadline to submit your sign-up forms is tomorrow, Friday, January 3. If you have already submitted your sign-up forms but have yet to receive confirmation, not to worry--you will soon.

My sincere apologies to those of you who have emailed me in the past couple of weeks and are still waiting for a response--you should hear from me in the next couple days. Between getting sick and the holidays, I've been mostly offline and am slowly starting to work through my huge backlog of emails. If you're expecting a reply and don't receive one by Sunday, please do feel free to follow up with me and Bill. I'm traveling January 5-13 but will do my best to check email when I can and/or respond as soon as I return. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Wishing you all a restorative winter break!

Best,
Caroline

Hi all,

Please read on for info on signing up for ENGL 791 and 795 in Spring 2020.

ENGL 791: Thesis Course

If you are planning to register for ENGL 791 and write your thesis essay in Spring 2020, please join us for an info meeting on Wednesday, Nov, 20, at 6:00pm (room TBA). At this meeting, we'll go over the ENGL 791 Guide to the thesis-essay process and requirements (for now, you can find general info on our website), including registering for ENGL 791 (see the sign-up form attached here), writing an effective proposal, finding an advisor and second reader, etc. It's also a great opportunity to connect with your peers who'll be going through this process with you. The spring deadline to submit your ENGL 791 sign-up form and proposal to me (caroline.hong@qc.cuny.edu) is Friday, January 3. Once your form/proposal has been approved, you'll be registered for 791.

Please RSVP via email in the next couple weeks, whether or not you can make this meeting. If you're unable to make it, we can get you all the info and chat about the process via email or in person.

ENGL 795: Independent Study

If you are interested in doing an independent study in Spring 2020 and have already discussed the possibility with a full-time faculty member in the department, please fill out the ENGL 795 sign-up form (see attached) together with your professor. The spring deadline to submit your ENGL 795 sign-up form to Bill (worchard@qc.cuny.edu) is Friday, January 3. Once your form has been approved, you'll be registered for 795.

As always, if you have any questions or need advising, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Best,
Caroline & Bill
