Dear Graduate Students, Please see below and attached re: an opportunity to work with a writing nonprofit and mentor teenage girls. Best, Caroline -- Caroline Kyungah Hong, PhD Assistant Professor of English Director of Graduate Studies (English MA) Queens College, CUNY 65-30 Kissena Blvd. Klapper Hall 604 Queens, NY 11367-1597 caroline.hong@qc.cuny.edu ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Rachel Cohen <rachelfreya@gmail.com> Date: Tue, Apr 4, 2017 at 10:23 AM Subject: Seeking mentors for high school girls To: Rachel Cohen <rachelfreya@gmail.com> Hi, I'm a longtime Associated Press reporter and a fourth-year mentor with Girls Write Now <https://www.girlswritenow.org/>, a fantastic nonprofit that empowers teenage girls in NYC to find their voice through storytelling. We are starting the process of recruiting mentors for the 2017-18 school year. Our mentors are women who work in writing and storytelling - their fields range from journalism to publishing, advertising to academia, digital design to filmmaking and beyond. They must have at least two years of professional experience, so undergrads would not be eligible, but we're looking to reach out to QC faculty, staff, grad students and alums. Because many of our "mentees" live in Queens, we are especially interested in applicants who live or work in the borough. Details on our requirements for mentors are available here <https://www.girlswritenow.org/get-involved/be-a-mentor/>. Applications can be found here <https://www.tfaforms.com/4603358>, and the priority deadline is June 1. We review applications on a rolling basis, so early submissions are encouraged. I've attached a flier for display and distribution. Please feel free to forward this email to any appropriate mailing lists or to anyone else you know who might be interested in volunteering. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or to mentor@girlswritenow.org with any questions. Thanks very much for your time. Take care, Rachel Rachel Cohen (917) 692-7140
