Dear Graduate Students, I hope that the semester has started well for you all. Attached to this message are two flyers for upcoming events at the CUNY Graduate Center which may be of interest. On Friday October 18 in the English Program Lounge (room 4406) at 4:00 there will be an "Information Meeting and Admissions Workshop" for everyone interested in pursuing a PhD in English, but especially African American and Latino/Latina students. If you're considering pursuing a PhD in the future, either at the Graduate Center or elsewhere, you should certainly plan on attending. On Friday September 20, there will be a panel discussion, titled "Before Globalization?," with leading scholars in the fields of early modern, race and globalization studies. The discussion, from 4:00-6:00 in the Elebash Recital Hall, promises to be lively and well worth attending. You'll see many Queens College faculty members there. And, on a less exciting note: my office hours tomorrow (Wednesday September 11) will be ending one hour early at 6:00pm rather than at 7:00pm. And my office hours on Monday September 16 will run from 4:30-5:15pm rather than at their regular time from 5:00-6:00pm. I apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause. You're welcome to email me to schedule an alternative appointment. All best wishes, Andrea Walkden Assistant Professor of English Director of Graduate Studies, MA Program <mailto:andrea.walkden@qc.cuny.edu> andrea.walkden@qc.cuny.edu English Department Klapper Hall, Room 604 Queens College, CUNY
