We have extended the submission deadline for our annual Nancy Comley Prize to this Wednesday, April 27. Please do consider submitting something, whether it's an essay you wrote for an MA class that you're really proud of, a work-in-progress, or your thesis essay—you've got nothing to lose! See attached (and pasted below) for submission guidelines.
We're so excited that our 8th annual QC English Graduate Conference, on the theme of "Catastrophe and Community," is coming up at the end of next week! We are holding the hybrid conference over two days to accommodate the most people—in person at QC on Thursday, May 5, from 4–7pm, and via Zoom on Friday, May 6, from 10:30am–5:30pm. There will also be a few asynchronous presentations that will be shared online next week. More details to come very soon, but we hope many of you will join us for what promises to be a fantastic event!

2022 NANCY COMLEY PRIZE
for the best essay by a QC English MA, MS Ed, or MAT student
Named for the long-standing Chair of the English Department, the Nancy Comley Prize was established in 2012 to honor the best essay written by a graduate student matriculated in the Queens College English MA, MS Ed, or MAT programs. The prize is sponsored by the English Department Alumni Fund.
All currently matriculated English MA, MS Ed, and MAT students, as well as master’s students who graduated in Fall 2021, are eligible. Submissions should be 10–25 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, in standard 12-point font, with 1-inch margins and page numbers. They must be carefully proofread and formatted according to current MLA style, including a Works Cited page.
The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 25, 2022. All entries must be submitted via email to MAEnglish@qc.cuny.edu.
Before submitting your entry, please take careful note of the following instructions:
1. Your full name
2. Your 8-digit CUNYfirst ID number
3. The title of your essay
§ Make sure that your name does not appear anywhere in your essay, which will be anonymously read by the prize judges, who are faculty members serving on the English Department’s MA Committee.
Winners will be contacted by Monday, May 2. We will then announce the award winner and honor them at the department writing prizes ceremony (details TBA).
