Our heartfelt congratulations to
Rani Srinivasan, the winner of this year's Nancy Comley Prize, for her outstanding essay "Emerging from the 'Impregnable Cocoon': Liminality in
The God of Small Things and Postcolonial India"!
The faculty judges also gave an honorable mention to
John Maldonado for his fantastic essay "'Think upon the wounds his body bears': Imprints, Gender, and the Hegelian Dialectic in Shakespeare’s
Coriolanus"!
Thank you to everyone who submitted their work—the judges loved reading all the essays and had a very difficult time choosing a winner. We faculty are always blown away by the excellent work of our graduate students, and you all should be incredibly proud of yourselves!
While we're sad we can't honor Rani and John in person this year, we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments virtually at the English Department's Writing Prizes ceremony on Tuesday, May 25, at 4pm (details TBA).
Congrats again, Rani and John!
Best,
Caroline & Hillary, your Directors of Graduate Studies in English
