Dear Graduate Students,

Happy New Year! We hope your transitions into 2021 have been relatively easy and gentle. Please read on for a few reminders and announcements.

REGISTER NOW FOR SPRING 2021 CLASSES

Please register for your spring classes via CUNYfirst ASAP, if you haven't already. Courses that are under-enrolled will be under extra scrutiny and in danger of being canceled by the College administration. There are still open seats in ENGL 701, 703, 720, 736, and 742. (If you're interested in a class that's closed, you can try contacting the professor and asking for permission to overtally or get on a waiting list. Faculty contact info can be found here.) Just in case, I've attached the course descriptions again.

EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR ENGL 791 & ENGL 795 SIGN-UPS

A reminder that, for anyone planning to take ENGL 791 or ENGL 795 in Spring 2021, you must submit your sign-up forms and proposals via email to caroline.hong@qc.cuny.edu. We have extended the deadline for your forms/proposals to the end of the day on Monday, January 11, at the latest.

FALL 2020 FLEXIBLE GRADING POLICY

A reminder that graduate students have until January 12 to convert any letter grades between B+ and C- from Fall 2020 to Credit or No Credit (CR/NC). (The only course that you cannot choose the CR/NC option for is ENGL 791.) For more info, please visit https://provost.qc.cuny.edu/flexible-grading-policy.

NEH SUMMER SEMINAR FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS

I'm also passing along an announcement for an NEH Summer Seminar for high school teachers on “Frederick Douglass and Literary Crossroads.” It will take place July 2021, the application deadline is March 1, and participants will receive a stipend. For more info, visit https://iris.siue.edu/douglasscrossroads/.

As always, if you have any questions or need advising, please email us both, and one of us will respond as soon as we're able. Please continue to stay safe and healthy!

Best,
Caroline & Hillary, your Directors of Graduate Studies
