Dear Graduate Students,

I hope that the semester is now winding down for everyone. Thank you all for such a wonderful year. Below are a few brief beginning of-summer announcements to read over and file for future reference.

Summer Advising

Advising hours over the summer will be via email: andrea.walkden@qc.cuny.edu. Please plan for a response time of up to one week for all messages, although we’ll likely get back to you sooner than this. I’ll be in touch with details of pre-semester advising days and times at the beginning of August. Caroline (Hong) will be taking a parental leave in the fall, and so all inquiries should be directed just to me. (She’ll be returning in the spring!)

Summer Courses

There are still seats available in the two graduate courses running in the 6-week second summer session: English 723 taught by Professor Marotta and English 781 taught by Professor Moreland. Course descriptions are attached to this message. Unfortunately, all seats are now taken for both courses in the 4-week first summer session. Questions about summer courses should be directed to the Summer Chair, Professor Rhoda Sirlin: bklynheights@hotmail.com.

Fall Registration
Registration for fall 2014 courses is undergoing; course descriptions are attached. If you have questions about any of the courses being offered, don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you plan to sign up for 791 (the thesis essay writing course) or 795 (the independent study course), please contact me as soon as possible so that I can explain the additional paperwork you’ll need to fill out.

Fall 2014 academic calendar

Please keep the calendar handy on your desktop and note any important dates that pertain to you.

Graduate Handbook

I’m attaching a copy of the recently re-issued Graduate Studies handbook to this message. It’s a useful first place to look for college policies and procedures on various academic matters.

And finally . . . congratulations to all our graduates!
I hope to see many of you at the commencement celebrations next Thursday – May 29. The English department ceremony will be in the Goldstein Theater, starting at approximately 11:30am once the main ceremony on the quad has ended.
