Dear MA Students,
I hope that your summers are going well. I’m writing with a few notices about things coming up in the fall. Please take a moment to review these announcements related to registration, upcoming events, and job opportunities.
Registering for 791 (The Thesis Class)
If you are planning to complete the thesis course in the fall, please remember that the deadline to submit the sign-up for this is August 4. If you are planning to do thesis essay in the fall and haven’t been in contact with us yet, please email maenglish(a)qc.cuny.edu<mailto:maenglish@qc.cuny.edu> so that we can schedule an appointment and help you get through that process.
Waitlist for Closed Classes
Several of our classes are closed right now, but we will begin moving students on the wait list into some of them in the coming weeks. If there’s a class that you couldn’t register for and would like to be placed on the wait list for, email us at maenglish(a)qc.cuny.edu<mailto:maenglish@qc.cuny.edu>.
Conference
The MA conference, which was originally planned for the Spring term, has been rescheduled for early November. The theme of the conference is “In Other Worlds,” and the call for papers will be recirculated in early August. We hope that you’ll present work that you completed for classes that you took in the last academic year. We are also interested in volunteers for the conference committee. If you are interested in participating in the selection of papers for the conference and in helping organize the day, fill out the following form<https://forms.gle/co2Sci7nPnPcqxkX8>.
Writing Center Tutors
The Writing Center<https://www.qc.cuny.edu/academics/wc/> and the Queens College AANAPISI Project<https://qcap.commons.gc.cuny.edu/> (QCAP) are currently seeking writing tutors with a wide range of expertise for the next academic year. They are particularly interested in tutors specializing in tutoring multilingual writers. Tutors would work their hours in the Writing Center and tutor students from a variety of classes with a focus on multilingual students. They’re especially interested in tutors who are bilingual and/or have experience with Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Bengali, Nepali, or Hindi. The compensation for these tutoring positions is $15.50-18.50/hr with an average of 10 hours a week. These hours will include tutoring and training. Please contact us at maenglish(a)qc.cuny.edu<mailto:maenglish@qc.cuny.edu> if you are interested in applying for one of these opportunities. The Deadline for applications is July 28.
Center for Career Engagement and Resources
The Center for Career Engagement and Resources<https://www.qc.cuny.edu/academics/cei/> is a resource available to students in the MA Program. They are located in Frese Hall 213 (Frese Hall faces the entrance to Klapper, if you enter on the level with the museum.). Among other things, the Center provides information on job and internship opportunities, resources on career development, and workshops to develop your job materials.
We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. Please feel free to reach to Professor Miller or me if you have any questions about the program or the upcoming term.
Best,
Bill
