*CHECK (AND DOUBLE-CHECK) YOUR SCHEDULE*
Before the semester begins, please take a moment to log-in to your
CUNYfirst account and check that you’re registered for your courses. If for
some reason your registration has been canceled by the Bursar, or if you’re
registered for the wrong courses, it’s much easier to sort out any issues
if they’re caught before the start of the semester.
Then, in the first week of classes, double-check your schedule again to
confirm class times and classrooms. Occasionally classroom assignments can
change right before classes begin.
*ADDING A COURSE / REQUESTING AN OVERTALLY*
If you’re looking to add a course, there are still several with open seats,
including ENGL 681 on Lit and Theater with Prof. Rhoda Sirlin (class code
27017); ENGL 736 on Feminist Criticism and Victorian Fictions with Prof.
Talia Schaffer (code 27021); ENGL 781-02 on Structural Violence and
Literary Form with Prof. Gloria Fisk (code 27090); and ENGL 781-03 on
Sentimental Modernisms with Prof. Cliff Mak (code 27091). Course
descriptions are available on the English Department website at
http://english.qc.cuny.edu/graduate-programs/current-graduate-courses/.
Please confirm current availability by checking the Schedule of Classes on
CUNYfirst.
If you wish to overtally into a class that is already closed, please email
the course instructor and ask for their permission to overtally and/or to
be placed on the course waiting list. Please keep in mind that instructors
have no obligation to overtally you into classes once they’re full and that
all instructor decisions are final.
*QC HUB*
The QC Hub is a centralized location where you can get answers to questions
or resolve any issues related to financial aid, registration, student
records, and other bureaucratic matters. The QC Hub is located in the
Dining Hall, room 128. To make an appointment and find their hours and
other info, see
https://www.qc.cuny.edu/studentlife/services/qchub/Pages/default.aspx.
*QCARD*
If you haven’t yet obtained a QCard, please do so ASAP. You can no longer
enter the library or other secure locations on campus without a QCard. For
more info, see
http://www.qc.cuny.edu/StudentLife/services/online/qcard/Pages/default.aspx.
Hi all,
Please read on for info on signing up for ENGL 791 and 795 in Spring 2020.
*ENGL 791: Thesis Course*
If you are planning to register for ENGL 791 and write your thesis essay in
Spring 2020, please join us for an info meeting on *Wednesday, Nov, 20, at
6:00pm* (room TBA). At this meeting, we'll go over the ENGL 791 Guide to
the thesis-essay process and requirements (for now, you can find general
info on our website
<http://english.qc.cuny.edu/graduate-programs/ma-in-english/ma-thesis/>),
including registering for ENGL 791 (see the sign-up form attached here),
writing an effective proposal, finding an advisor and second reader, etc.
It's also a great opportunity to connect with your peers who'll be going
through this process with you. The spring deadline to submit your ENGL 791
sign-up form and proposal to me (caroline.hong(a)qc.cuny.edu) is *Friday,
January 3*. Once your form/proposal has been approved, you'll be registered
for 791.
Please *RSVP via email* in the next couple weeks, whether or not you can
make this meeting. If you're unable to make it, we can get you all the info
and chat about the process via email or in person.
*ENGL 795: Independent Study*
If you are interested in doing an independent study in Spring 2020 and have
already discussed the possibility with a full-time faculty member in the
department, please fill out the ENGL 795 sign-up form (see attached)
together with your professor. The spring deadline to submit your ENGL 795
sign-up form to Bill (worchard(a)qc.cuny.edu) is *Friday, January 3*. Once
your form has been approved, you'll be registered for 795.
