Hi all,
A reminder that if you are planning on writing your thesis essay or doing
an independent study in Fall 2015, the deadline to submit your sign-up
forms/proposals is TODAY. ENGL 791 forms/proposals should be emailed to me,
and ENGL 795 forms to Professor Bill Orchard (worchard(a)qc.cuny.edu)
Also, we will be holding three ENGL 791 workshops this semester: Wednesdays,
6:30-8:00pm, on *September 30*, *October 28*, and *December 2*. All
students writing their thesis essays, whether you're currently registered
for 791 or finishing an incomplete, are welcome and strongly encouraged to
attend. I'll send out more details in a couple weeks.
Finally, I wanted to pass along an employment opportunity:
My company, Better Edge Tutoring, is recruiting Queens College graduate
students and adjuncts as tutors to students in Grades 7 through 12. Tutors
will be trained in the SAT, ACT, and SHSAT. There may also be
opportunities for subject-specific academic tutoring, helping students with
the personal statement (for college), and conducting small group classes.
The pay rate is $45/hour for tutoring that takes place at the student’s
home. Most clients are in Manhattan and Queens, so a certain amount of
commuting is involved. But all locations will be within reach of public
transportation, and I will try to match you with students near your home.
Ideally, I am looking for tutors who could do 10 or more hours of tutoring
per week.
If you feel reasonably confident in your high school English and Math
skills (algebra and geometry mainly), please send a CV or resume to
kevin(a)betteredgetutoring.com. There is no need for a cover letter, but if
you have teaching and/or tutoring experience, please briefly mention it in
your email.
Thanks very much,
Kevin Cooney
Adjunct Professor of English
Queens College, CUNY
Wishing everyone a great start to the fall semester, and please don't
hesitate to email if you have any questions or need help.
Best,
Caroline
