Dear Graduate Students, On behalf of our Grad Conference Committee, we are thrilled to share the exciting Call for Papers (CFP) for our 3rd annual QC English Graduate Conference, scheduled to take place on *April 18, 2016*. Please check out the attached CFP. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to share your work and participate in a vital aspect of academic professional life. So please do consider submitting a proposal, perhaps on the seminar papers you just wrote (or are still writing) or on your thesis essay projects. The submission deadline is *Monday, February 8, 2016*. And of course please save the date and plan to join us on April 18th. [MAEnglish] Important end-of-semester announcements

Hi everyone, Though my office hours for the semester end this evening, I'm always available via email and appointment, so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or need advising. Please read on for some important end-of-the-semester announcements. 1. Course and Faculty Evaluations Don't forget to fill out online evaluations for all your courses at http://www.qc.cuny.edu/evaluate/. The department and college welcomes your feedback and takes your suggestions very seriously. All comments are anonymous, confidential, and unavailable to instructors until after final grades have been submitted. The deadline is Dec. 15. You can even fill them out on your mobile devices! 2. Taking an Incomplete If you're unable to complete a final course assignment and want to take an incomplete, please make arrangements with your course instructor. Keep in mind that an incomplete is a temporary grade and should be resolved ASAP. All incompletes MUST be resolved within one calendar year (so an INC in Fall 2015 must be resolved before the end of Fall 2016). 3. Registration for Spring 2016 Courses It is very important that you register for your spring courses , if you haven't already. If we have any classes that are underenrolled, they could be in danger of being canceled by the College administration. So it's in your best interests to register ASAP. I've attached the Spring 2016 course descriptions again here. 4. Registering for 791 and 795 If you're planning to write your thesis essay or take an independent study in the spring, you should've already been in touch with me or Bill and also already asked the faculty members you'd like to work with (before they're gone for the winter break). If you have questions or need copies of the sign-up forms, please let me or Bill know. 5. Graduation Congratulations to everyone who is finishing up and graduating this semester! Though there is no graduation ceremony for fall, we hope you'll come back in June to participate in the campus-wide commencement and the department ceremony. Look out for announcements via this MA listserv in the spring for more info. Hope your fall semester is winding down nicely, and wishing everyone a happy holidays/winter break! [MAEnglish] Workshop for students planning to take ENGL 791 next semester

Hi all, We are holding a workshop for students planning to take ENGL 791 and/or write the thesis essay in Spring 2016 on *Wednesday, December 9, 6:30-7:30pm*, in Klapper 610. We'll have wine and snacks while we discuss the logistics and requirements for 791/the thesis essay <http://english.qc.cuny.edu/graduate-programs/ma-in-english/ma-thesis/>, including submitting a sign-up form and getting registered, writing an effective proposal, finding an advisor and second reader, etc. We'll leave plenty of time for your questions and also give you the chance to chat and connect with your peers who'll be going through this process with you. If you plan to take 791 next semester, please email me to RSVP for this workshop and/or make an appointment with me to discuss your individual thesis essay plans. Dear Graduate Students, I need to cancel my regular office hours on Tue., Dec. 8. Instead, during the last week of classes, I will be available in my office on *Wed., Dec. 9, from 4:30-6:30pm*. After that, I will only be available via appointment. I'll still be around quite a bit, so please do email if you have any questions or need help.
