Finally, in time for the Year of Brazil, the History Dept is offering two courses in Brazilian history, both of which satisfy the major requirements in non-western history.  For example... Hist 121: Introduction to Brazilian History, Prof. Amy Chazkel, MW 10:45-12:00 in PH 156.  This will satisfy the requirement for lower-division non-western history.  (You know, that list that includes 105-106, 111-112, 140-142, 144-149.) Hist 294: Music and Culture in Brazilian History, Prof. Amy Chazkel, Mondays, 1:40-4:25.  This will satisfy the requirement for upper-division non-western history.  And it's the course that we're most excited about -- it will feature visiting musicians as part of classes on how Brazilian music reflects social and political events and trends in Brazil.  It will meet in the Aaron Copland School of Music, room 264 -- a fun way to get necessary history credit, with performances free of charge.
