[History undergraduates] Summer Internship DPBP_Migrant Detention Summer Position
Dear History Majors- As Director of Internships for the History Department, I am sending this call for interns on behalf of our faculty member Dr. Amy Chazkel, who has volunteered with this organization in the past. The Dilley Pro Bono Project, which provides crucial legal services at the nation's largest immigrant detention facility, located in south Texas, is looking for summer interns. If you have follow up questions about the organization, I encourage you to email Dr. Chazkel at amy.chazkel@qc.cuny.edu. Sincerely, Dr. Schlichting Kara Murphy Schlichting, PhD Assistant Professor Queens College-CUNY, History Department ---------- Forwarded message --------- Friends, Students, Colleagues: The Dilley Pro Bono Project, which provides crucial legal services at the nation's largest immigrant detention facility, located in south Texas, is looking for summer interns. Feel free to forward this information to students who may be interested. Deadline to apply: Feb 15. Contact: volunteer@caraprobono.org<mailto:volunteer@caraprobono.org> See message and attached flyer for more information. --------- {message from the organization below}--------- The last couple weeks we got back to normal numbers after a very quiet period, but we have now surpassed normal. 125 new families requested legal services on Friday alone. We are prepping 75 families a day. From past experience, there's only one thing can save us... Summer interns! Undergraduates, recent graduates, grad students, and law students alike have been provided immeasurable support to us in past summers. Remember what it felt like to finally hit your stride on Friday of your first volunteer week? Internships allow us to keep those skills and knowledge on the ground, helping staff to support volunteers, work on tougher cases, and in the case of legal interns, perform essential writing and research. Please share the attached announcements for two separate internships: one for law students and one for other applicants. We request that interns speak Spanish and spend 10 weeks in Dilley. A housing stipend will likely be available but interns will need to seek funding from their university or other sources for additional living expenses. Whether you are our next amazing intern, or help us find that next amazing intern, thank you for supporting our internship program for summer 2019! -- Nara Milanich, Professor<https://barnard.edu/profiles/nmilanic> Department of History Barnard College, Columbia Univ.? 3009 Broadway NY, NY 10027 nmilanich@barnard.edu<mailto:nmilanich@barnard.edu> (212) 854-1935 Academia.edu<https://barnard.academia.edu/NaraMilanich> Twitter @NaraMilanich
