At CUNY’s Murphy Institute, we offer two unique programs that provide students with tools for leadership, scholarship, and advocacy: New York Union Semester<http://www.unionsemester.org/> and the Masters of Arts Degree in Labor Studies<http://www.sps.cuny.edu/programs/mals/index.html>. In addition, we’ve launched a scholarship competition to help foster a diverse leadership in the labor movement and in the academic field of Labor Studies. The “Diversity Scholarship” is for students pursuing an MA in Labor Studies or completing a BA. Applications are due March 31, 2014 for the scholarship. Regular deadlines are June 16, 2014. NY Union Semester<http://www.unionsemester.org/>offers a mentored internship for college graduates and undergraduates, at a union or worker organization. Interns take 4 labor studies courses and receive: · A weekly stipend, in-state tuition, a scholarship · Credits for labor studies courses; an unlimited Metro Card In the MA in Labor Studies<http://www.sps.cuny.edu/programs/mals/index.html>, students examine the debates and challenges affecting working people and unions, from an interdisciplinary perspective. This is an ideal degree for anyone interested in advocacy, organizing, non-profits or academic research.
