[History undergraduates] FW: IRT Info-Session for Grad School - Please Announce!
Dear History Students, Please see the below and attached regarding a program that helps students apply to graduate school. Best, Prof. Celello Sent on behalf of Interim Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Glenn Burger Dear Colleagues, Please consider announcing the IRT (Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers) info-session about their graduate school preparation program to your students. The info-session is being held on Wednesday December 4, 12:15-1:15pm in Powdermaker Hall, Room 104. See the poster, attached, for details. The IRT helps students of color and other students committed to social justice and diversity, apply to MA or PhD programs within the fields of Education, Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Currently, the program is assisting two Queens College seniors who are both English majors apply to PhD English programs. The program works with a consortium of over 40+ institutions<https://www.andover.edu/about/outreach/irt/irt-consortium> who provide their students with application fee waivers while in-house they provide year-long one on one advising and support throughout the graduate school process. There is no application fee or security deposit to their program. Participation is free of charge. 62% of IRT applicants identify as first gen and 61% identify as coming from a low-income background. The IRT mission is to empower talented underserved and underrepresented future educators to teach and serve as leaders in Education (as college professors, deans, administrators, college advisors, high school counselors, K-12 teachers, principals, etc.). They accept applications from professionals in the field, people who already have a master’s degree or are currently enrolled in a master’s program, recent graduates, and undergraduate juniors and seniors. Undergraduate juniors and seniors are also eligible to apply for their paid, summer residential internship.
