Dear Dr. Warren,
We're
having a rally on campus
regarding the situation of our security officers on Tuesday, May 4th between 12-2 on the campus quad. As you may know, our contracted security officers across CUNY receive poverty wages, no paid sick days, health benefits, or job security. They have begun to organize themselves and we are supporting them. Given the support of the QC administration in this struggle, a demonstration in the form of a sit-in would not be productive.
Therefore, we have chosen to host a "sing-in", with three main goals: to demosntrate our support to our officers; to raise awareness amongst the student body about this issue; and to have a massive calling campaign to CUNY Chancellor Goldstein, who has the power to correct this matter. We will be singing songs that deal with social justice and Peace, and will be distributing educational literature while using signs to visually demonstrate to people what we are rallying for.
Is there any way you can spread the word to as many people as possible about this? This is so important: the PSC resolution regarding the issue was great, and we need to keep moving forward!
Please let me know if you can help us out here, and if you'd like to be more involved in our efforts: thank you so much! Email is fine, but so is the phone: 917.273.7891. Take care and speak with you soon!
In Peace,
jenn
