Dear History majors, As you know, all History majors are required to take Hist 392W, the junior-senior colloquium, as a capstone seminar. One of the topics for Spring, 2015 may be of interest to you: Ambassador Loucas Tsilas, former Greek ambassador to the U.S., to South Africa, and to the European Union (among other diplomatic assignments), will be repeating his course on Historical Transitions in the 20th-century. The course is divided into three sections, each based on a significant phenomenon in global history with which Amb. Tsilas was intimately involved during his diplomatic career: 1) the transition from Apartheid in South Africa, 2) the transition from Communism in Eastern Europe, and 3) the wars in the Balkans in the 1990s. It's an excellent opportunity to study with someone who had firsthand experience, and even responsibility, in key events. Students in the class now speak very highly of the course.
