All best, Prof. Bregoli *Oral History Intern* National September 11 Memorial & Museum - New York, NY Full-time, Part-time, Internship *POSITION OVERVIEW: * The Oral History Intern will work under the supervision of the Associate Oral Historian. The internship will provide the opportunity to develop practical skills in a museum environment, will introduce the student to a diversity of museum professionals and practices, and will enable the intern to interact with museum collections curators and oral historians on all aspects of their work, including research, writing, and outreach. *ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Anticipating increasing interest in the 9/11 Museum’s collection of oral histories and artifacts by scholars and researchers, one of the intern’s primary projects will focus on helping to organize and prepare the collection for public research. This is a multi-year and multi-faceted endeavor involving research, writing, and summarizing and transcribing oral histories. The intern will also assist with research into gifts offered to the collection by individuals who have recorded oral histories and preparing preliminary formal written acquisition rationales. There may be opportunities to edit audio files and assist in outreach and recording. There may be additional research projects assigned throughout the summer. *EXTERNSHIP/INTERNSHIP SCOPE: * The intern will be actively engaged in the following activities: - Drafting full or partial transcripts of oral history recordings. - Drafting accurate summaries or digests of recorded interview content, noting specific words, phrases, and sentences of particular resonance and those related to historical themes, as set forth by the supervisor. - Assisting with recordkeeping, tracking, and cataloguing. - Conducting research involving oral history candidates and artifacts offered to the collection. *GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: * - Interest in oral history, as demonstrated by successful completion of at least one class or project utilizing oral history, or prior work experience incorporating oral history. - Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Demonstrated research skills and organizational skills. - Familiarity with relevant computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite. - As appropriate, ability to deal with difficult and sensitive materials related to events of September 11, 2001. - Bilingual applicants preferred. *EXTERNSHIP CREDIT (IF APPLICABLE): * - If seeking academic credit, individual will be classified as an extern (meaning they are not paid and not on our payroll).
