Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Faculty,
Are any of your students interested in social change and economic justice?
A paid internship with a worker organization, or a scholarship to pursue an MA in Labor Studies?
At CUNY’s Murphy Institute, we offer two unique programs that provide students tools for leadership, scholarship, and advocacy. The Masters of Arts Degree in Labor Studies is ideal for those interested in labor and community organizing, law, government or non-profits, or academia. Students examine the debates and challenges affecting working people and unions. We offer:
- Evening classes in midtown Manhattan; Internships.
- Affordable tuition; Scholarship opportunities.
- A world-class faculty: Ruth Milkman, Joshua Freeman, Stephanie Luce, Ed Ott; and consortial faculty Stanley Aronowitz, Frances Fox Piven, Stephen Brier.
- Dynamic classes on organizing, immigration and labor, research methods, history, labor law, bargaining, comparative labor movements, globalization, special topics (worker coops, labor and climate change, media and journalism) and more.
New York Union Semester is a mentored internship for college graduates and undergraduates, at a union or worker organization. All interns take 4 labor studies courses and receive:
- A weekly stipend, in-state tuition rates and a scholarship.
- Credits for labor studies courses; an unlimited Metro Card.
Scholarships:
- The “Diversity Scholarship” aims to increase diversity in the labor movement and in the field of Labor Studies. This competitive scholarship is for the MA in Labor Studies or BA in Urban and Community Studies. Deadline: March 31, 2015.
- Student activists: If you plan a career in worker/labor rights, and can complete a special scholarship application by Nov. 10, AND you intend to apply for the MA in Labor Studies … please contact Laurie.kellogg@mail.cuny.edu for scholarship information.
