Dear colleagues,

The History Club has organized a screening of the movie Loving (2016), based on the Supreme Court ruling that fifty years ago ended race-based restrictions on marriages. The screening is on Thursday May 4, 4:30-7pm.

The Club would love to put together a panel for a post-screening discussion. Lawrence Cappello has already agreed to participate. The officers hope that any of our US history specialists may be willing to participate to speak about race, gender, or marriage.

Either way, please spread the word to your students about this timely event once classes begin again. I will send the full information with room number as soon as it is available.

Hope all is well. This is Emily. Sorry to be bothering again so soon, but I was hoping you could help. 


The History Club is teaming up again with the Political Science Club and Film Club to host a movie screening of the movie Loving (2016), based off of the landmark Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia which invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage. Given that 2017 marks the fifty years since that ruling, you can see why this film is still so poignant to matters of civil rights. 


That said, we have confirmation from Prof. Lawrence Cappello that he will give a post-screening discussion on the film, with a talk focus on morality laws in US legal history.


We are hoping you could reach out to other QC History Faculty, so we can make this event even more of a success. Hopefully there is someone who could speak to on race or gender or marriage in general? A post-screening discussion panel would be great for this event.


The date is set for Thursday, May 4th, from 4:30 - 7:00 PM. Location to be in Powdermaker Hall, room TBD. Pizza to be served! 😊
