Dear History majors,
I hope your summer is going well. See below for an invitation from the college, on behalf of CBS news, for QC history students to join the studio audience on Thursday, July 24 for a program about the Freedom Summer of 1964, and about the efforts of
students at QC to enact The Civil Rights Act 50 years ago. The invitation includes a link by which you can RSVP.
On behalf of CBS News, please accept our invitation to an upcoming special event.
CBS
News Presents “A Summer on Fire: Civil Rights 50 Years Later,” a live,
interactive, multimedia event staged at the historic Ed Sullivan Theater
in New York City. Hosted by veteran CBS News anchor and host of
“Face the Nation” Bob Schieffer, the event will stream live on
CBSNews.com, MSN.com and broadcast simultaneously on The Smithsonian
Channel on July 24, 8pm ET/5pm PT.
Sponsored
by Microsoft, “A Summer on Fire” is the second in a series of CBS News
Live Experiences, where a studio audience is taken on a journey through
time with rarely seen images from the CBS News Archives, and
conversations with history makers, experts and entertainers. The
interactive and engaging experience examines the culture, society and
politics of today with historic events from half a century ago.
On
July 24, Bob Schieffer will lead his guests in a discussion of the
struggles of 1964 to enact The Civil Rights Act, register blacks to
vote, and the violence that marked the struggle for civil rights that
summer
in states both north and south. The conversation will examine events
that shook the nation then but also explore their impact today in ways
we could never have predicted or imagined.
We
would like to invite you to be a part of our studio audience for this
exciting evening. The event takes place on Thursday July 24th at The Ed
Sullivan Theater (1697 Broadway between 53rd & 54th streets). The
program begins at 8 pm. Doors open at 6:30.
